Help on sodium levels

Obviously too much sodium in our diet isn't great - but what about too little?

My sodium level has been set to 2500 I think, but most days I am nowhere near that level? On occasion I have only reached around 100? Is this detrimental to my health? Are the levels set to what we should be aiming for or are they for us to stay under?

I'm staying clear of things like crisps, so what would be a 'healthy' sodium?

Really appreciate some help.

Thank you xxx

Unless you have an underlying health problem where you need higher Sodium levels or living/working in a hot climate less is definately good. With the inclusion of salt into many every day processed foods unless you eat totally 'clean' its quite likely that you are actually eating more that MFP is showing. We need a lot less salt than we think. So don't worry as long as your diet is healthy & balanced.

Think I have just realised something else too - not all foods in database have the sodium levels logged do they? What does everyone else do when this is the case?

Thank you Jilly - think I realised about MFP figures as you were typing - will look at it a bit closer when logging from now on.

Not worry about it unless I think it might be a high salt ite. By the way 1.5gm is the minimum daily requirement for normal body health. Its actually quite hard to get under that unless as said before you eat 'clean' and never add salt!

Are you in the UK , Emma?

One thing I've noticed is that our packets normally show sodium in grams whereas MFP logs it in mg. So many foods have 0.1mg entered for sodium whereas it actually should be 100mg. That's why it shows up as nothing on your diary1

If you notice anything like that, please correct it!
