HIIT or P90x?

I"m currently lifting TOTAL BODY 3 days per week, according to New Rules of Lifting For Women. I want to get lean but strong, and fit, that's why I don't want to really give up the HIIT or p90x compeltely.
Now the question...

If I lift heavy, do I do HIIT or P90x? I mean, which one is the best in minimizing my muscle growth but keep my fitness level high?

    I would do HIIT. But look into a thing called Tabata as you can vary the length and intensity.
