How much is too much when it comes to water?

I have this new app to track my water and it says you just need type your weight and activity level in and it will tell you how much you need to drink. I'm at 175.5lb and doing some form of activity everyday for at least 20 minutes. It told me I should be drinking around 3.25 liters (around 109.9 oz) of water per day for my current stats. Do you think this is too much water? Especially when I just started drinking it after months of not really drinking it at all? I was going to start at around 2.1-2.2 liters or so. How much water do you drink at your current level of activity and weight?

The only decent way to judge IMHO is urine color. If it's dark yellow, you need to drink more. If it's pale yellow, you're probably well hydrated. Clear may mean overhydration. The however is if you're taking vitamins or any meds that may temporarily color your urine.
If you're eating a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, you're going to get some hydration that way. You're also going to get some hydration from other liquids like flavored water, sport drinks, coffee and tea. Some even say soda but I know I don't feel hydrated after drinking soda or flavored water with sodium in it.
110oz of water is not a huge amount (that's about how much I get) but it's going to seem like a lot at first because you're not used to it. Your plan sounds good to me.
PS I weight about the same as you do and exercise 30-60 minutes per day at least 5x per week.0 -
I'm 5'5", 170, and I've been drinking 10-15 cups/day (80-120oz) for a while, just sipping it throughout the day at my desk and having whatever I need while exercising. I used to not track it, but one day I started back up just out of curiosity. One day I even drank 23 cups and was still thirsty at times... Considering getting checked for pre-diabetes, but hoping to avoid that with weight loss and diet. That was a very high water intake day, though, not my norm.0

As far as the research that I've done over the last few months says, you should try for at least half of your body weight in ounces every day. This did not take into account exercise, so I also agree that your app sounds pretty accurate!0
