Healthy is an arbitrary word. What works for you may not work for someone else. Does that chili recipe meet your goals? Personally I think it sounds really tasty, and I would have some cornbread with it. :)

I think it sounds delicious too!

I make my chili with ground turkey, 2 cans of kidney or black beans, 1 can of no-salt diced tomatoes (undrained), 1 can of no-salt whole kernel corn (undrained), 1 low-sodium chili seasoning packet, and a huge helping of cornbread!

Sometimes I add a small 6oz can of tomato paste if it's too thin, or an 8oz can of tomato sauce if it's too thick.

    Love chili!

Are the canned beans somehow sodium free? Because that 257 mg of sodium sounds way off.

Aside from the ketchup it sounds good to me.

Good catch! I looked up the brand mentioned and saw that the black beans have 125mg sodium per serving, 3.5 servings per can, and the kidney beans have 130mg sodium per serving, 3.5 servings per can.

I regularly make a similar recipe with kidney beans, canned tomatoes, lean ground turkey, and spices. Mine is a little high on sodium but has great Protein/Carb/Fat macros.

Unless you have a blood pressure problem, don't sweat the sodium. Sodium in the diet is good and unless you have an issue it is very difficult to eat too much.

The daily recommended levels are way too low.

    Also your recipe sounds delish!

I forgot to add that I put in 1/2 cup of ground flax seed to increase the fiber.

it sounds good to me. I usually try to use 93% or leaner and I drain/rinse my beans and do't' use ketchup - never even thought about using ketchup but now I am...I also use the canned pinto beans that have jalapenos.like my chili spicy! I also have a turkey chili that has squash and zucchini in it that I make occasionally

Sounds yummy. I never used zucchini, I will have to try that. I usually add a ton of celery, onion and bell peppers to up the veggies.
