Calorie intake

What's a good average intake for a male? Currently i'm eating between 1400-1800 calories a day.

It is going to depend on your stats and your goals. Fyi, I'm female and eat 1850/1900 a day.

Going to depend on your height, weight and age too. Here's a calculator that will give you an idea of your BMR (base metabolic rate) or 'calories needed to stay alive' (organ function and such):

Do you want to post your stats and then it will be easier for everyone to answer your questions.

I'm pretty Sedentary, I go to work in a booth, go to school, study and sleep. I'm waiting for the LA Fitness in town to open, that way I can go swimming for at least an hour a day. cuz the YMCA is too expensive for me.

You do not need to eat less than your BMR to lose weight. Your BMR is the number of calories burned keeping your body alive (if you never got out of bed or did anything, you would burn that many calories). Your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) is what you have to eat under. This is BMR + all calories burned moving in any way (not just things you think of as exercise).

It is recommended that men not eat under 1500 calories. You can probably eat 1700-2000 as my guess.

Is there a site to find an estimate to your TDEE?

A common recommendation is to try TDEE-20% as your calorie goal, or TDEE-10% if you want to eat more (and lose a bit slower).

It seems my guess of 2000 was too high, but if you start exercising it could be that high.
