At It Again

Hello All, I am not exactly new to MFP, but new this time around. I first joined MFP back in 2010 and it's amazing to see how far it has come since then. I am super impressed. I started my weight loss journey back then and was very successful at the time in losing 48 lbs. I have since gained the weight back and every year I lose it and gain it back. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and I have made the decision to start again and this time, hopefully keep the momentum and will power going in order to lose the weight and not let diabetes win. Although, it is under control, I don't want to take pills for the rest of my life or worse, insulin. I am not new to working out and I am feeling good about everything. I am definitely glad to be back on MFP (3rd profile) and hope to make some life long lifestyle changing friends!!!

  • I'm new at this again myself. I'm starting over. Though I was here last year and lost a little over 30 lbs I gained it all back this year. DEPRESSING :( I feel awful not just physically but mentally also. I want to get it all back. I want to look good and feel good about it. I want to change. Looking for some support cuz there's definitely not much at home. Another one of my downfalls. My hubby isnt chubby or big so he feels like he can eat whatever. Really difficult to have a picky husband and cook 2 different things either just for me and he and the kids have something different or the kids and I eat and I make something just for him. It sucks to try and reprogram yourself I guess u could say to change your lifestyle when your old one stares you in the face living with you everyday. Any support would be lovely. Thanx B
  • Hi dear!! Trust me, I know EXACTLY how you feel with regards to losing and gaining back. Fortunately, I am not married and have no one standing in my way. I do have a great support system, consisting of friends and family and I'm so sorry you don't have that. That makes it that much harder, but I am all for motivational support on and offline, so I am def here for you honey. I know you can do it, heck, WE can do it and we will. I am in the same boat, I am addicted to food and just need to find the willpower to keep trucking through this time and not give up when I don't get instant gratification. I will add you as a friend and we can surely motivate each other.

Why are you cooking two different meals, one for you and one for your husband and kids? That's depressing in itself and a lot of extra work at the same time.

Remember a calorie is a calorie regardless if it comes from carrots or cookies, protein, fat or carbs. IOW it's all about portion control. If you're trying to separate meals you're just going to gain all your weight back once you hit goal, and start eating the same things that you're preparing for your family.

So try it differently this time, cook a well balanced diet for your family, meat, potatoes and vegi's, cut down on your portion sizes, no seconds and you'll hit goal weight and be able to maintain that weight for the rest of your life. Two pieces of bread turns into one, a piece if cake is now a sliver, etc etc etc.

No crazy diets, no magic pills, just eat less, move more--is the key to long term weight loss success.

Good luck and both you and the opt can do this.
