Gyms where kids can exercise too

My husband and I are shopping around for a new gym and we live in McKinney, Texas. We would like to find a gym in McKinney, Allen, Frisco, or Plano. Does anyone know of any chains that allow kids to work out? My daughter is 10. She doesn't like going to the child care area and wants to exercise.

For insurance liability reasons you won't find a reputable gym that will allow children to work out.

I've seen a few that are mom and pop deals, and the kids were highly supervised. The Y may allow 14 years and old if they have passed some classes and exhibit the correct level of maturity.

The gym can be a dangerous place for little hands, skulls, bones.

I know my Y (in CA) allows children that age in exercise areas but there are some rules that apply, obviously.

Is there a rec centre in your area that also has a fitness centre? The rec centre I work out has a gym section, as well as a track area that has weights & other equpment. Several people take kids there, usually just to walk/run on the track. They'll also bring strollers if they have infants.

As long as the kids are properly supervised it doesn't bother anyone :)

The Plano rec center has rules about kids in the weight room, squash court, etc, but it seems like for the most part they can do cardio and be on the track without an issue. I'd check out the rules (and there may be other rec centers closer).

Have you checked into the YMCA fitness centers in your sea? I did a google search and found 1 in Frisco and another in Plamo. My google search read ..... YMCA gyms near Frisco Tx.

They have wonderful activities for kids, as well as allowing them to use the gym equipment. There is one near my home and the reason I don't use it is because it is so geared towards families with children that I feel left out.

The YMCA in Wisconsin allows them also. There is a family area upstairs.

I wouldn't really know, but wondering maybe you can find a place that has a climbing wall? Could be good exercise you could do together.

My Y is great, while they don't welcome kids younger than 14 in the work area. They do have a day care center, and activities available for them.

I love my gym. Kids who PASS an instructional class and receive an orange band can workout with an adult at age 10. We allow kids at age 12 to work out in our gym, BUT they can be asked to leave the floor if they are goofing around ( just playing on the machines and weights rather than actually working out). Personally I haven't had to ask any kids under 12 to leave for inappropriate behavior...............yet.
As of now, my DD can workout upstairs (she loves the assisted dip/pull up machine) as long as I'm up there.
But in my gym "fit zone" for kids is about physical play and games. They don't sit and play video games like they do when my DD was in 24 hour Fitness.

Not in your area, but my gym has a really cool "Kids Action Club" with machines that someone just use their bodyweight, or something to apply resistance, stationary bikes attached to video games, a bunch of those dancing video games, a revolving climbing wall, basket ball arcade games, etc. It's cool because it gets the kids moving too.
