Anyone have a good recipe for bbq sauce? My husband has been asking for bbq chicken for awhile, my problem is I don't like the amount of sugar in store bought ones. We like a sweeter sauce we just don't want all the sugar, any ideas?

I thought you were goinig to have one to share! I am planning on doing pulled pork for the superbowl, but I know my favorite Sweet Baby Rays Sauce is not the best calorie wise.
  • Here ya go! I haven't tried this personally, but remembered a WW leader talking about how good it is!

    2 cups ketchup
    2 cups diet coke
    minced garlic (to taste)
    diced onion (to taste)

Let me know if you try it! :)
  • Maybe check out allrecipes.com? I need to find one too, but I can't pry my BF's fingers off his Sweet Baby Rays! I've started just eating my pulled pork without BBQ sauce and letting him put his on separately.

Edit: This looks like it might be worth trying: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Big-Als-KC-Bar-B-Q-Sauce/Detail.aspx
  • This sounds yummy!
I think I'll try it too!

    Thanks for posting it. :flowerforyou:

If you need more, it is basically equal parts of both Ketchup and Diet Coke. It doesn't sound good but it really is.

I haven't found a low sugar option but I usually water mine down (or just use half of what I used to) especially for crock pot pulled pork. Then I serve it as a condiment on the side for thoses that want a more sticky kick. Sweet baby ray's is my favorite.

I know Hungry Girl has one, I just can't seem to find it. I have made it before and really liked it.

Here's my favorite one (not spicy at all but yummy!)

    1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup molasses (Blackstrapp is the best!)
1 tsp soy sauce (I use Liquid Aminos)
    1 tsp mustard
    1/2 tsp garlic powder

Makes enough for 3-4 boneless skinless chicken breasts

Bump... I am going to make this for superbowl. I just need to decide on what sort of meat to smoke... ribs or Boston butt.

I make my own simple sauce for pulled pork. We just made it tonight for dinner. It is simply aproximately 1 cup ketchup and 1/2 cup brown sugar and a dash of vinegar. If the sugar content is an issue, you could use the artifical brown sugar sweetener. I once made regular hamburger BBQ for my diabetic father with the artificial brown sugar and it was super sweet. He likes his BBQ more tangy than sweet, so I was told this was too sweet. :-)

I honestly just squirt the ketchup, so I am just guessing with the 1 cup.
