Post surgery work-outs

Hi everyone,
I will have foot surgery in September and can't use my foot for about 4-6 weeks. A bone needs to be broken and will be reset, but I will not have a cast, since the bone is stablized with staples and pins. After about 4 weeks I am able to place it on the floor with no to minimal weight bearing. So, running and walking exercises are not able until the end of October or mid-November, depending of healing.
I have dumbells at home and will be able to use them while sitting. Any other recommendations are appreciated.
It will be hard to just eat only 1200-1400 calories while laying around and being bored :indifferent:.

Man your lucky to have this site before your surgery. I broke my ankle just before Xmas last year and also had staples and a plate. My boyfriend did the cooking as I was stationary which I love him to bits for however I can't say it was the healthiest choices. My weight went up so much. I couldn't really do much exercise on crutches as my ankle swelled up a lot when upright.
Are you having physiotherapy? Once I was up and about I found the my hospital had a physiotherapy gym so could help me exercise without hurting myself.
If your on crutches and can get up and about on them I promise you it's HARD WORK!!! It will keep you fit just going for a short walk with them. (Apparently even athletes find it hard work).
Good luck with your surgery and a speedy recovery ????0 -
Thanks for the reply. I already noticed that walking on crutches is a workout in itself. I already have the crutches and on days when my foot hurts bad I already use them to take of some pressure and pain.
The procedure will be done as an outpatient, so I will not be in the hospital besides the day of surgery.
Due to work related commitments the surgery is post-poned to October (yeah, in the military they can make you wait for a surgery even it is painful for you).:indifferent:
So, I am still open for other suggestions.0
