Mapmyfitness calories burned (with HRM) way off

I bought a Polar H7 over the weekend and love it - I do Insanity every weekday morning and it's great seeing an accurate representation of my calories burned. Or at least this is the case if I use the Polar app! If I use Mapmyfitness, the calories burned is double that of the Polar app, i.e. - 1080 calories burned doing a month 1 Insanity routine, with an average heart rate of 126bpm.

The Polar app shows 520 calories, which is much more realistic. I have configured both apps the same, in terms of my stats, and the fact that the calories burned is so far out is a deal-breaker for me - I was thinking of going MVP but wouldn't waste my money if it's this wrong.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

I only use MapMyFitness for running. Rest of the stuff I just use my plain ft4.

The're both too high. An HRM does not give a meaningful calorie estimate as a result of training like Insanity.

It's way off for my bike rides too. I always manually correct it for my calorie counts.

Heart rate can be a proxy, but there are assumptions about the stability of the relationship that are based on performance being aerobic. As soon as one goes into the anaerobic range the relationship between heart rate and calorie expenditure breaks down.
