Does it get better with hunger and cravings when on low-carb

Hello everyone

I went on a low carb diet before and lost almost 7 Ibs. But I always gain them back again.

However, it's the only way that ever worked for me.

My question is: when does it get better or when will I get used to this diet? I somtimes feel hungry and sluggish.

I am 265 IBs and I go on a 1200 calorie diet.

    I Monna2,

I am fairly new here, but I think 1200 cal might be too low for you. You probably feel hungry and sluggish because you aren't eating enough.
I eat 1500 a day - 5 meals of 300 cal each, including carbs. I worked this figure out by working out my BMR - if I lay in bed all day my body needs about 1800 just to keep my organs working. I walk 40 minutes 4 times per week which burns about 1350 cal. I am currently 237lbs and 5'9". (I think, I usually use metric, so 107.5kg) I'm averaging 3lbs (700g) per week weight loss.

You are heavier than I am, not sure how tall you are but I think 1200 is way too low. From my research, you might be putting your body in starvation mode.

Have you tried tracking your calories??? I have tried low carb in the past - sure the weight came off but I was a cranky as a bear with a sore head most of the time as I needed SOME carbs. I am finding tracking calories is working really well, I include carbs, and have learnt a lot about healthy eating - the better choices I make, the more I can eat.

If you eat low carb, then you need to consume more fat in order to feel full longer. Low carb is also the only diet that works for me. I lost 40lbs on it previously, got messed up and gained it back plus a lot more, and now I'm back on low carb, high fat. Also, yes 1200 is way too low if you want to be LCHF. I consume between 1800 - 2000 per day and I'm losing weight (currently not exercising). Good luck!

how did low carb work for you exactly when you gained all the weight back?

Dont restrict foods that you like, just eat them in moderation. Also find your TDEE and maintain a deficit of 20% to find your calorie goals. 1200 is way too less for somebody your weight which is why you are feeling hungry and sluggish

OP: please ask this question on the low carb group. They can recommend the right macros.

I agree with the other poster who says you may need more calories.

so for all the people who regained on CICO/IIFYM that suggests these approaches fail as well? Given your "logic".

My fitness Pal suggestion was 1300 calories if I want to lose the extra weight in a year.
    I am about 5'5.
Low carb works for me because it allows me to eat more varities with less calories. I can eat all kinds of fruits and veggies without really worrying about the calories. So, I basically get the carbs and sugar from fruits and veggies and not from bread, rice or pastry. That's the method I'm following.

fwiw, if you're eating fruit you're probably not very low carb.
That said: there's NO harm in not eating refined grains.
I'd still eat more calories. :flowerforyou:

Hey,I started at 225 and stick to 1500. I just started trying to lose weight a few weeks ago so maybe not quite a success story yet, I think you are too low on your calories. Did MFP recommend a number for you to stick to? I manage cravings by drinking little pots of green tea, lots of water and coffee with just 2% milk in it. Its tough but I found myself just getting use to it. Also, I don't have the rest of the household's snacks near my stuff so its not as tempting.

I, too am new to this. I am on the LCHF at 1500 calories. I also drink lotsof water with lemon in it It was hard the first few days. AND started workigng out,,,(nothing to hard). I am findng I feel better and better each day. I did start out sluggish, headaches, and a bit irratible.....however when I started adding the "good fats" in my diet, I started feeling better. I agree with Sabine_Stroeh. Look up a low carb, high fat (LCHF) group and they will be able to help you more! :flowerforyou:

    Good Luck
