Fitbit question

Is it possible to turn off the wireless feature of the Fitbit (like putting your phone in airplane mode)? If so, does it still track your movements when wireless is turned off? I'm thinking about getting one, but I can't take wireless devices everywhere due to restrictions on where I work sometimes. But if there's a mode where wireless is turned off, that might work.

Thanks in advance!

It's not wireless like a bluetooth. I'm not techy so I can't remember what it uses, but not bluetooth type technology. There's no airplane mode or similar.

Great question and I have a basic answer for you. Don't plug in the base station of the fitbit and you won't have an issue. It runs on a non-standard frequency for wireless communication thus the likelihood of it causing issues where ever you work are slim. Not to mention the radio distance around the fitbit is around 5-8 feet and again such a low frequency that a mouse fart would cause more problems than the fitbit.

I"m still looking for an answer on how to turn the bluetooth on and off on my my fitbit one. I need to be able to do this - since enabled bluetooth is prohibited in my workspace.

Did you get anywhere with this question? I have a fitbitone that I really want to wear to work. I'm an IT person - I know it's not allowed in unless the bluetooth can be disabled. I'd love an app that would turn it on and off from my driod OS phone or the fitbitwebsite. I've emailed fitbit...

I contacted fitbit - the fitbit one - transmits and recieved. Bluetooth can not be turned off. I emailed them to ask about the new wrist band one - to see if the bluetooth with have the option to be turned on/off and told them there is a whole sector out there that is looking for this function

I didn't like the fitbit adding all of the exercise calories and I couldn't figure out how to change that. So I deleted the fitbit app (if that's what you call it) from my computer.

I love my fitbit now. It tracks my exercise pretty closely and I'm able to see that I take at least 10,000 steps every day.

Instead of trying to turn it off, can you shield it? Would workplaces accept that?

Honestly, the thought of it being a "wireless" device doesn't even occur to me while I'm wearing it. I took my Fitbit on an airplane and didn't "shut it off." My only question was if it would count "floors" as we took off (it didn't...).

But like the previous poster said, the wireless range is minimal, so it shouldn't hurt anything.

I did contact fitbit - it communicates via bluetooth just about all the time. I believe it was bluetooth 2.0 but it was a while ago when I asked. No on/off, no disabling.

By the way - it took almost 2 yrs but my workplace approved them!!! I did look into shielding, but i didn't find a package that would be small enough for what I wanted. Time solved this issue for me. Thanks all. I'm so glad i only have to take my fitbit Onet off now to shower and swim.
