Goal Outfit

So I went out and bought a "Goal Outfit". I mean basically stuff I wore when I was skinny...I'm hoping to fit into it by the time I reach my UGW. Does anyone else do this? It's just a pair of short-shorts and a tank top but I mean a part of me thinks it's stupid because I spend money on clothes that will just be sitting there for months but I can't wait to fit into it!

I think it's a good idea, I did the same thing with this cool looking sweatshirt hoodie. But if you're not making progress and lose interest or whatever, sell them and get your money back lol

Okay so it's not just me.lol yeah I mean I didn't spend a bundle on it, maybe $50? And if I end up not fitting into it by next summer I'll just give it to one of my younger cousins. But I can't have that mentality, I'm working on losing weight, I'm motivated and I look at it everyday so excited to not have to squeeze into it in the future :)

Looking at your picture, you look pretty beautiful right now... and yet your ticker on your profile says that you have 43lbs to go? That seems like a lot of weight to lose, assuming your profile pic is accurate.
My only concern is whether your goal is safe for your height and frame.

How many sizes to you need to drop before you can wear the outfit?

Setting a goal is great, but personally I'd pick something different. Reason for me is that I find that finding clothes that fit - in my current size - is tough at the best of times. To pick something a few sizes smaller, that I hope to eventually fit into, is a risk in terms of whether the clothes will fit properly on my "new" body.

All that said, I do wish you the best of success and hope that this way to celebrate attainment of your goal, works well for you!

I can't afford work clothes and I work in a business setting.

    So... LOL's, no.

I on occasion might pick up something tighter than usual at Goodwill, if it's %50 off.

I do take too small hand me downs, they do have their own very special place in my closet so I can wear them when I lose weight.

    :-)

ETA: I got this awesome tank top in my MFP profile pic for $0.50 when it was too small for me at Goodwill now it does fit!

    And I LOVE it!

I wanted to buy it new for $4.00 when it was on sale at Wal-mart, but couldn't bring myself too because it wasn't "business" and business is what I NEED not WANT.

    But now I have it.

I tend to err on the side of too small when buying jeans (very rare occurrence tbh) - if they fit, it's a nice surprise, if not, they go in the drawer for a month and I try again. :)
  • I have a goal outfit too, but I already had it and I wore it a couple years ago so I didn't really go out and spend money for it to sit around in the closet. But it really is a great motivator! :)

Thank you but it's the angle...and it was from a few months ago. I've recently gained a lot of weight from binging and eating out a lot. I need to lose 8-9 sizes in order to get into my goal outfit...I mean I guess it depends on how you look at it because a 0 is technically a 1. And a 2 is like a 3...so if I combined the sizes I need to lose like 3-4 sizes before the outfit fits. I hate buying clothes now because I know I want to get out of it. Currently I'm still wearing my maternity clothes because I'm avoiding buying anything new. I afraid like if I get too comfortable in what I'm wearing I'll just get comfortable and lose motivation.

I don't need to buy anything. I have two whole closets at home of goal outfits. Occasionally I'll open the closet and just rifle through them, to remember what I'm working toward.

That's awesome! I'm a stay at home mom so my clothes are mostly lounging stuff, jeans and shorts kind of stuff anyway and not too expensive. But it's embarrassing going out with my other mom friends and only being able to wear yoga pants and tank tops while they all look super cute in their shorts and jeans. I mean I guess kind of how I dressed before I gained so much weight lol

yes, I had a couple of them, I brought a pair denim shorts last year, as I was squeezing myself in them, my husband walked in and he looked at me said "you need at least 2 size bigger for that" Oh I kept the shorts even I knew they totally didn't fit me. Now, I wear them quit a few times this year and got lots compliments :-)

    Good luck!

I usually just buy a size lower than what I am and work towards it

I do own a pair of pants that I've never fit into. When I was on a previous weight loss kick down to my smallest adult size (which is only one size down from where I am now), I had bought a pair of pants that were just slightly too small for me because I liked them and they were on the clearance rack. I needed to lose maybe 5 more pounds to fit into them, but never did. When I do fit into them this time around, I'll certainly be proud. I don't know if I'll ever wear them since I have no clue if that cut will look good on me, but at some point they'll fit. But even they are a far cry from where I want to be.

I had a bunch of clothes in progressively smaller sizes from 10 years ago, and it has been incredibly motivating working my way through them.

I'm now on the smallest size, with the world's biggest donation pile in the spare room, but I found when I bought anything deliberately smaller, the shape didn't fit me, so it didn't really work for me. I'm just buying clothes which fit me now, even though I'll probably change shape over the next few years as I start working on my non-weight loss fitness milestones.

Well. .I personally want to wear thigh highs and a bustiere...jk..interesting idea for motivation. The only issue I see is that it can be difficult to predict what your size may be at your goal weight. Everybody's weight sits differently.

I agree, I mean I don't even know if it will fit once I hit my goal weight because my body has changed so much since I've had kids. But if it doesn't then I can either continue working towards that outfit or I'll pass it onto one of my younger family members.
