Scared to add calories

Hiya,I started dieting the end iof April this year and have lost a stone and a half, starting at 12st 7 and I'm now exactly 11st   but no matter what I do I can't lose any more, been stuck for a few weeks.
I know people and websites are saying to up your calories ( I eat between 1300-1500) a day and try different excercises but I am scared if I'm not losing on the calories I am eating then surely upping them will make me gain? Ideally I have another half stone to go even though people are saying to stop now.
Does anyone else reach their goal weight and think " I can't stop now, cos if I put on even a pound I'll be over my goal weight again" , I don't feel I can do anymore excersise or eat any less than I am so any suggestions welcome! Many thanks

  • Don't up your calories unless you want to start putting the weight back on.

Try not to think of it as being stuck, but just taking some time to get used to your new leaner body. Call it maintaining for a while and then when you are mentally ready go for another push.

Also, don't count on exercise to help with weight loss. It really has very little impact (although it does, of course, bring other benefits), and can make you feel more hungry and feel that you have 'earned' something extra to eat.

    Good luck :)
  • That's great advice thanks, I like the idea of being happy where I am for now (without gaining!) and then relaxing about how quick I lose the last few lbs. thank you for taking the time to comment

a couple of weeks of not losing is normal...weight loss is not linear.

With 4 lbs to go you will eventually have to up calories tho...and you won't gain.

As you get closer to goal the margin for error gets smaller. Are you using a food scale? logging accurately? eat back exercise calories and if so how many?

if you don't have a food scale get one.

Ive had weeks of staying the same and then the weight starts shifting again, it is quite normal for this to happen but I do find that if I weigh everything I have a bigger loss than when I dont
  • Thanks for the suggestions, I do weigh everything and although I did months ago, I don't eat back my excersise calories now? Should I be doing so or not? Thanksl

Try shifting your exercise workout as well, just to shake things up! Most people eat back half their exercise calories (leaves room for miscalculations). WTG on your loss!

Sounds like you are doing all the right things! Certainly weigh all your food and change up your workouts! What program/workouts are you currently doing?

I would not eat back your calories if you can help it. I would consider, to break through the plateau, upping your calories by 100 for one week to see what happens. If you gain weight, then back them back down. If you maintain or lose weight then you know it was the right idea! Good luck!
  • Thanku, I'm gonna up my calories by 100 for a week and not eat back excercise ones. Will keep you posted
    Thanks everyone!
