I've been wanting to buy a heart rate monitor but I'm not sure what the best one to go with is and for a decent price that won't break me. Any suggestions?

I would google "Heart Rate Monitor" and find one that meets your needs and is still within your budget. Why do you want one? You didn't say.0

I have a Polar FT4 and I absolutely love it. I got it from Amazon for around $70. It tracks my heart rate through my entire workout, so it gives me an accurate amount of calories burned. Now that I have it, I can't imagine working out without it!0

I just broke down and got the polar FT4. I got it for less than 60 at academy sports and outdoors. I wanted a fitbit, but the guy asked me what I wanted it for, and when I told him something to better monitor my calories he said the fitbit isn't meant to track calories and if that is what I want it for that the polar FT4 or FT7 were the best. The FT7 was a little more expensive so I went with the cheaper one.
It totally shocked me at how little I burned today according to it. MFP said I burned 333, my elliptical said I burned 415, but the watch said I only burned 275.0 -
my husband is a runner, and he has a garmin gps watch plus heart rate monitor. It was almost 200 dollars but it tracks his distance, how fast he ran, the weather, the hills, ect in addition to his heart rate and calories burned. he loves it. I don't run like he does, so I didn't see the point in getting something like that.0

I just use my android phone, and bought a $60 bluetooth HRM. I use a few apps, but mapmyrun seems to be one of the better ones I've found. If you don't want to go with the expensive watches, then use your phone as the GPS and buy a reasonable HRM. I have owned the Zephr HRM (Lost it and bought a new one, only to find it again yesterday). I also use the magellan HRM.0

I had the Timex Personal HRM and I really liked it but I broke the watch after about 2 years. I just "upgraded" to the Polar H7 that syncs with my iPhone but I get about 1/2 the calories burned as the Timex was recording for the same workout and intensity, so I need to see what is going on with it. With the H7, you can see all the time how you are doing rather than just periodically and it works with a number of different apps. They are about the same in price on Amazon (~$55).0

I'm a huge fan of the Garmin Forerunner. I think I have the 405 - GPS and HRM. Pricey but has lasted me 7 years so far, and I think they have come down in price (and size!) considerably.0

If you're just doing stuff like treadmill or elliptical then a FT4 wouldn't be a bad choice.0
