What are you doing that you don't like? What is it about those lifts that you don't like? Is it the program you don't like?

I don't like lifting either. But it pays off so I've done it for most of my life.

I can't stand lifting. It's so boring and there are no nice gyms near me. Walking, swimming, push-ups, stomach crunches, six inches, planking, leg lifts, hand weights and water weights. The water weights, combined with the resistance of the water, give me the most non-lifting bang for my buck...it's a lot like lifting, just the weights are made of styrofoam or air - same difference.

I have no desire to get muscular. At all. I only work the muscles so they'll pull on the bones, which is a half-assed attempt to have healthier other things. I'm also supposed to be in the sun, so doing the water weights in the sun kills two birds. If it weren't for making the muscles pull on the bones, I wouldn't do a thing except swim.

I was never all that worried about preserving every little bit of muscle, anyway, so I don't really care if I lost any.

    Different strokes, different folks. :)

There are many resistance based training programs that are effective. You can start with body weight training, cross-fit, kettle bell, at home programs like chalean extreme, p90x, etc..

Anything is really better than nothing though. Resistance training helps maintain metabolic functions, lean body mass (muscle, bone, tissue, etc..) and prevent diseases such as osteoporosis.
