Protein drinks … should i try them ?

So , I've been reading the forums regularly now since I've been here and seen mentioned protein drinks before n after exercising but I've never really been into milk shakes or milky drinks.. while in New York my friends regularly drunk them but all of them were coffee flavoured and i hate coffee so i didn't try them.
Im in the uk and I'm thinking of trying them out ..so question is..what make is best ? and what flavours do they do ? and do they sell them in small quantities ? as i don't want to spend a whole load of cash on something I'm gonna throw away if i don't like it.
At the minute i usually drink milk before and milk and a boiled egg after. that keeps me going till dinner time 3hrs later.

If you can hit your protein macro without them, they're unnecessary.

Thanks.. i think I'm doing quite well with my diet and counting etc but just wondering about them really .. i know i can't keep on my low calories forever but really struggle eating the right amounts as it is ..couldnt possibly eat much more than i am doing now, but was thinking of adding weights to my exercise routine which all I've read seem to point to more calories etc etc.. confused.com .. lol

Typically it's recommended 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass, or at least close to, for muscle retention in a deficit. Your rate of loss should be determined by how much you have left to lose. With less weight to lose, the less aggressive of a deficit you need.

If you're having issue meeting your calorie goal, try to look for more calorie dense foods, avacado, nuts, peanut butter, ice cream. Here's a good read

I highly recommend joining the Eat, Train, Progress group and reading the stickies there. They have a plethora of helpful info. :)

No problem, it's not something you have to actively participate in. It's just a group run by two awesome people who know a lot and have a lot of info for meeting nutrient needs, fitness, etc. I've been in the group for a year and I think I've posted three times hehe. They're very knowledgeable.

I use the protein drinks to help me staying in my calorie intake range and upper my protein intake. For some reason I can't get it done with my diet. My food log is open but I have been very inconsistent the last 3 weeks....yikes :embarassed: .
Protein shakes keep me longer full, so I will not snack in between meals or the urge do stuff something in my mouth isn't there.

I use bodyfortress/chocolate and I order it from amazon. It tastes good with milk or water.

    Hope it helped.

I have been using protein powder because I don't eat a lot of meat and I can't seem to get enough protein without it. I use an unflavored whey protein that I can add to anything because it barely has flavor. I use it in fruit smoothies a lot. There are dietary sources that are high in protein though- cottage cheese, greek yogurt, chicken breast, etc. so if you plan your diet accordingly, you don't need protein drinks.
