AFTER ALL THESE DIETS.. WHAT REALLY IS MY IDEAL WEIGHT?

So after 5 years of strict dieting, yo yo dieting, weight gain, weight loss, restricting, over exercising, under exercising, stupid fad diets and developing an eating disorder (binge eating - due to all this dieting)

What really should be my ideal weight? Can't I listen to my body, eat when i'm hungry and stop when i'm full. I just wanna stop counting calories and obsessing.

I am 5 ft 7, 21 years old and weigh 10stone 2. I used to weigh 9 to 9 1/2 stone, and now after all of this I just wanna be at my normal weight.. And i'm wondering what it is!

Help guys..

    Hey stranger : )

    Just put your stats onto the net - Came up with the below: -

    According to your height of 5' 7" your ideal healthy weight is 143 pounds. Your recommended weight range is between 127 and 159 pounds.

  • Hey youuuuuu! Awww thanks i'm just sick of dieting. So i'm stopping! Lol xx
  • I really think that you should speak to your doctor about it. For now I would focus more on developing healthy habits that you can stick to for the rest of your life rather than your weight. If you are living a happy, healthy lifestyle you're body will settle into a healthy weight.

    you're asking us to define you and determine your happiness... we can't do that. at 5'7" and 142lbs (if i did my stones to pounds math right), you're considered perfectly in the normal range.

    but those ranges don't have to look in the mirror every morning. so your ideal weight is something you have to choose for yourself. if you've come to terms with what your body looks like and just want to be in sync with it, eating when you're hungry and not eating when you're not, that's up to you. if you feel it's necessary to lose those 10-12 pounds, then go ahead, but i'd suggest doing it slowly and carefully. don't crash diet, just tweak a little.

    It's really hard to tell someone else what their ideal weight is. A lot of things factor into this, body fat percentage, amount of lean mass, frame size, etc. This is why things like the BMI chart have such a large range (121-158 is healthy according to BMI for your height). Where do you feel comfortable? Is this at a healthy body fat percentage? Do you have an adequate amount of muscle? Then that's your "ideal" weight.

    And no, a lot of us can't just listen to our bodies, but some people can (my husband for example). Try it. See how you do.

    PS .......

    * Ditch that scale!!!!!

    * Go get your body fat percentage measured

    * Take pictures

    * Measure inches

    * Build some muscle

    * Change your body shape lifting

    Now stop complaining about the number.... And go do what I say... Ha ha ha ha!!

    Depends...........I know not the answer you want to hear. The number on the scale is just one number. One number is not one-size-fits-all.

    If you maintained a fair amount of lean muscle while dieting, then you can look slimmer while weighing more than someone with a higher body fat percentage.

    If you lost fat and muscle (no strength training, high calorie deficits, and possible yo-yo dieting)....then you can weigh less and still not be happy with the end result. This is known as skinny-fat.

    Also.....keep in mind there are body types. I'm a pear whether I am underweight or overweight. So any "ideal" weight is something I'm not entirely happy with.

    My focus has to be on health....I'll never rock a bikini....ever.

    Have you considered going to the doctor, getting a nice goal weight, ballpark calorie estimate, advice on what you should and shouldn't be eating and then just doing what the doctor says?

    It's smart. It's uncomplicated. It works.

    Up to you.

    I for one do not understand why people ask this question. Everyone's ideal weight is different. Whatever makes you feel happiest, comfortable and at your best will be your ideal weight. It can be slightly overweight, it can be underweight, it can be in your weight range....as long as you are happy and healthy at that specific weight is all that matters.
