I just checked the nutrient database by Health Canada. Looks like salmon is not a good source of iron whether it's raw or smoked. It has about 0.35mg of iron in 100g of salmon. Since the RDI for iron is 8mg/day for men and 18mg/day for women, that means 100g of salmon is only 1.9% of the RDI for women. :ohwell:
But salmon is really good for Omega 3's :flowerforyou:
For reference, these are the sites I used:
http://webprod3.hc-sc.gc.ca/cnf-fce/index-eng.jsp
http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Iron-HealthProfessional/#h2
I had steamed lemon asparagus salmon for supper - so yummy!
ETA: Also, I have noticed that MFP is inconsistent in whether people have entered the iron content as %RDI or as mg. I don't personally like the %RDI as the RDI is different for males, females, young, older, etc. I prefer working in mg, but then I'm a chemist and work in mg all the time anyway, lol. Milligrams are more accurate than %RDI, imho0 -
Because Iron is not a legal requirement on Nutritional labels which is why tracking it on MFP is pretty pointless as it will never be accurate due to that0

According to nutrition lists of the WHO ( my employer ) smoked salmon has 0.85mg of iron in 3oz . The number is slightly different from fresh salmon.0 -
Oh weird!!! A pamphleteer I got at my dr office listed foods high in iron and salmon was on there so I just never doubled checked!! Time to get a new dr? And to buyt more salmon because yum.
I'll just add more spinach and almonds to my salmon dishes....0
