After going to a vegan diet for health reasons 6 weeks in and i've lost 20lbs and halved my insulin intake but yesterday i got taken over by the dark side and went out for Chinese buffet for lunch:ohwell: .
One thing i noticed was i could only eat one plate of food instead of my previous 3-4 plates of food.
Back to the vegan today.Mean Green juice for breakfast. salad for lunch and a meatless curry for supper.

I love Chinese buffets.0

It's one day, tomorrow is a new day so just get back into it!!
And it is an achievement that you only ate 1 plate instead of the 3-4 you used too!!!0 -
I'd post a pic of the place but seems not possible on this site.
Buffet Fu Lam in Montreal also comes with a whole section of Sushi and Dim Sum.0 -
Don't worry too much. You are not on a vegan diet for ethical reasons so it's not a big deal. We can't always be perfect. You have reminded me though that there is a delicious looking vegan Chinese take-out place near where I live and I'm dying to order from it!0

As people have already said, it's a new day, new start, so don't worry about it too much!
That being said, if you ever feel like a Chinese buffet again, I've found Chinese places are actually quite good for vegan food, next time look out for any tofu/beancurd dishes, rice noodles, and there's always a lot of plain vegetable dishes to chose from! Sushi also normally have plain vegetable options, but are still delicious!0 -
We all have our off days. The important thing is that you pick yourself up, brush off the dirt, and keep going!0

Like everyone's said, 1 day of Chinese buffet is just 1 day Once it's done, just jump back on the horse and get riding again on the path of awesome! (aka your target, health, wellbeing, whatever it might be!)
EDIT: Oh, and I fu'king LOOOVE Chinese food0 -
I'd be curious to know for what health reasons a vegan diet has been recommended? Being vegan is challenging in many ways and is usually only sustainable long term when there is a strong ethical basis.
In any case it was one meal. Put it behind you and move on.0 -
I actually fail to see where you "blew it"! to me, you ate good; because you ate just one plate instead of 3-4 plates as before. learning to control portions is the way to go...0

I don't believe in cheat days as I am not lifting enough weightwise to burn through increased amounts of calories, but I do believe that one day of a few extra calories will not kill us.
Weight gain is caused by sustained overeating. if you were eating Chinese buffet every day for a month then get ready for some extra padding, but I bet you don't even notice this when it averages out with the rest of the weeks intake.
PS I too love Chinese food. Dim Sum is the best!0 -
I plan on eating A LOT of pizza tonight...0

Obesity by about 100lbs and a resultant out of control diabetes is the reason for the vegan diet. i am starting to enjoy a diet without meat and dairy products, feels very ...wholesome... ,Doubt i'll ever go back to the meat/cheese/bread with a side of fries and a bucket of fizzy sugar water dietary lifestyle. However every once in a while ya gotta feed the beast within.0 -

This is probably why you fit these things into a day instead of going HAM at the buffet. :laugh:0 -
Chinese food is so hard to resist!! But on the bright side it wasn't a 900 calorie double cheeseburger and huge order of fries.0
