Rather than crowd the forums with long posts, I've decided to devote my MFP blog to writing up hacks and suggestions to make food preparation easier. These may be especially useful for beginning cooks but even we old dogs can learn new tricks, eh?
If you have any suggestions or questions, shoot me an message or comment on the blog.

You are my new favorite person. I've been cooking for awhile now but just in the last few months started doing it seriously (and for health reasons) and I'm always a disorganized mess. This is so helpful!0

For hacks, I would think an axe would work best. Maybe a hatchet. If you want cleaner cuts, use a chainsaw for dismemberment, and a band saw for individual portion cuts.0

+1
I was thinking chainsaw too...electric if close to the house, gas powered if having a BBQ somewhere remote. Long handled ax would be a good back-up.0 -

It never hurts to have a good, sharp set of knives available. Of course, I dissected an entire cat with a single edged razor in highschool, so really, you can make anything work if you have to. My teacher at the time spent the entire rest of the semester trying to convince me to go in to surgery. I eventually convinced her that giving me responsibility over other people's lives *probably* wasn't the best idea....0

Of course, I dissected an entire cat with a single edged razor in highschool, and I wasn't even in Science class!so really, SATAN can make anything work.... My teacher at the time spent the entire rest of the semester trying to convince me to go in to therapy. I eventually convinced her that giving me the kind of grades that got me the Hell out of there as fast as possible, was probably the best idea....

Just remember, if I can do that with a single edged razor, imagine what I can do with a good set of scalpels and a person who's gotten on my nerves.......0 -
