Any Advice To "Get Back Into It" ?

Left the workout studio after almost a year, and everything went downhill after the death of my father. Bought Tapout XT and did really good with it. BUT I should be bout 6 weeks in, and haven't finished week 2 yet. Between helping my mom, and going with her to doctor appointments (not going is out of the question)... I have no energy to workout. But when she doesn't have a dr appointment, I want to lie around and sleep because my mom just has SO MANY doctors to see.

I've thought about working out in the morning, and I'm really trying... But sometimes it's just not possible.

ETA: I also get migraines that I've inherited on my mom's side of the family and sometimes, It's just not possible to do anything.

Start with something simpler and lower intensity. That workout looks really hard, so it's going to be more difficult to get motivated for it if you're already struggling.

I don't know what kind of workouts you like so I'm just going to rattle some off..

Jillian Michael's Bodyshred is like 20-30 minutes. If you like dance, you can subcscribe to Ballet Beautiful and she has a ton of videos, some just 5-10 minutes long.
  • My husband has Chronic Migranes so I can understand that the pain makes it almost impossible some days. On the days you have no energy try and keep it simple. Maybe just do a few body weight exercises (crunches, squats, planks, etc.). Even if you just pick one to do on a bad day it is better than nothing and it is helping to establish a routine. I've gotten into a nightly walk. sometimes its 15 minutes, sometimes its 40 depending on my time and energy level.

You should also look into why you have no energy. If you've been eating a deficit, maybe you're not eating enough (I know we're friends, I haven't had a chance to check out your diary in a while, sorry! haha) or maybe you have a deficiency that's causing you to be extra tired -- low B12 being the most common culprit.

Make exercise a routine that's non-negotiable. When I started to re-commit, I promised myself I would run/walk 3 mornings per week (M-W-F) and it was the first thing I did when I rolled out of bed, otherwise, I had time to make excuses for myself not to go.

I get chronic migraines as well, so use your diary to see if you have any trigger foods that you can avoid to lessen the frequency of them. Caffeine, high doses of sugar, MSG, and things like peanut butter are pretty typical triggers.

Dude, I'm sorry for your loss. Life will knock you down , once you manage to get back up, it'll beat you senseless but you have to keep getting up. Success is defined by getting up 1 more time than you've fallen, Motivate yourself, I can't do it for you. You need to find what's important in your life, why do you want to workout? Find it and never let it go.

I understand you are going through a stressful time and carving out time for yourslef seems selfish. yet. It is not.

I bet everyone reading your post recalls when they did the very same thing.

For me, the past year, i too stopped working out after years of it being second nature to me. Now, I I'm almost 50 days back to working out most days. It was like i was in a trance and now i have to make up for all the lost ground.

I say….Just get back to it…an hour a day. However you make it happen. If you take care of yourself first….there is more energy for all the other things that matter.

First, sorry to hear about your dad.

Second, it doesn't matter, but if you can just go for a little walk outside some days, that is better than nothing. You'll feel better for having done something.

Third, make sure you are eating and sleeping properly.

    Take care lovely.

Sorry about your dad, and your mum but you need to stop making excuses. You either want to do it or you don't. Don't let your mind win. Sometimes you have to get off your butt even when you are tired and get something in. You can do it. You just have to apply yourself.

I saw someone posted that they treated working out (or going to the gym) as a job. No matter how they felt (unless they were really ill) they went.

I like to challenge myself. I've been trying to see what's the longest streak of "intentional exercise" (i.e.,, not housecleaning or doing chores, etc.) I can do. I got to 9 days, missed a day because my 10-year daughter got sick, but went right back at it and I'm going on day 4. I also have to work and take care of kids/hubby, but I try to exercise for me. I do go to the gym in the morning around 4:30 or 5 because it's the only way I can get it in during the week.

Good luck to you. Just take it one day at a time.
