So, this is my second day of calorie counting. I've dieted (unsuccessfully) for many years - mainly with Weight Watchers and, obviously, it's not worked for me, or I wouldn't be here, would I ?!?!?. This seems to be a great site - and FREE too! Let's hope I can stick with it - it's exercise I don't seem to be able to commit to. I find it boring. I don't have a gym near me..... yes, I know - excuses, excuses!!

Anyway, I'm hoping to find some buddies here with whom I can get/give some mutual support.

Happy weight loss and, wish me luck!!

......but tell me, just WHY is it that, as soon as some of us start a diet, we could eat all the chocolate in the house!!!

Thanks you for your good wishes - lets hope I manage to stick with it this time!

I have found the answer to that question......restrictive eating leads to binging and over-eating. I, too have dieted most of my life. I gave up diets permamently a couple of years ago. I read a book called "Am I Hungry?" that has changed my life. It has been rewritten under the title "Eat what you love, love what you eat" by Dr. Michelle May and there is an Am I Hungry web site if you want more informaiton. It is teaching me to figure out why I eat when I am not hungry and how to develop new coping skills. It took me quite a while to stop treating it like a diet and making up rules but I'm finally on the path that I want to be on. In 2010 I lost 50 pounds with no dieting, no restricting, no counting and only doing exercise I want to do an enjoy. I don't think about food as often...it doesn't rule my life, so to speak. So far in 2011 I've lost 9 pounds. I like this site to help remind me of what I have had so I can make the best choices for me in the moment but I'm still don't consider myself a calorie counter. I will never diet again.
Good luck on your journey, and welcome!

Well wiggiepooh, I can tell you what Dr Oz says about eating chocolate. He says do it! Now I don't think he means snickers exactly, but a sq of a dark chocolate bar is delicious and is totally fine...just not the whole bar at one sitting or a Hershey's kiss will work too, but get ready for a plan of escape for the box of Valentines chocolates, I don't think Dr Oz would give us a thumbs up on that one...just saying! Good luck!

I love it. I love knowing my body will ask for what it needs if I just listen. I have days where I eat more than I need or things that others consider "bad" like chocolate but I don't feel guilty about it, I don't "start over" I just continue on. I don't punish myself with workouts anymore when I eat more than I need. I don't judge myself as "good" when I eat a salad and "bad" when I eat a cheeseburger. It is just food. I enjoy food so much more. I highly recommend this approach to anyone and everyone. BUT it is NOT fast weight loss and if you don't enjoy the journey you won't like it at all!
