Lost 5 lbs in a day

I've recently posted about the pros and cons of weighing daily and since I got my FItbit scale I'm doing it daily but I used to weigh weekly before that.
First couple days I've lost about 0.2 lbs a day which seems standard at a pace of 1lb/week lost.
Today was my 4th or 5th day weighing in and i'm down 5 lbs even though it was at the exact same time (just after I got up) and in the exact same clothes (nothing but boxers on).
I first thought this was a mistake lol but after a bunch of research on this forum I understand that those fluctuations happen.
My question is : not that i'd be emotionally devastated to gain back some tomorrow, should i be prepared to gain it back by the next couple days? all of it ? a little bit of it? Is there anything I can do today to help me maximizing the chance that those 5 lbs are gone for good?
Thanks!

Half of it may be water related?, maybe brace yourself to gain half of it back.
I weigh daily and lose on Tuesdays and Fridays for some odd reason..
You never know, yoh could be lucky and keep all.of it off!.0 -
Keep doing what you are doing. Don' t let the scale beat you. It will fluctuate and has much to do with intake, activity and if muscles are being challenged. Some people only take value in measurements as the scale can play games with you.
I weigh daily and have fluctuated that much in a day. Scale can change by just sitting in a bath with no other changes.
Just keep doing what you are doing.0 -
I had very similar incident when I first started out....and I was super excited, and then a day or 2 later it was right back up. So I wouldn't get overly attached to that loss. I'm guessing that it was due water retention issues. Good Luck!0

I also recently got a fitbit scale (about 2 months ago), and went from weekly weighing to daily weighing. At first I was jumping on it all of the time, because I was curious about what a day of eating did (eg difference between morning and night), but now I'm down to just once in the morning.
I've had it vary by at least 2kg from morning to night (particularly if just after eating), and by about 1kg day-to-day. It always smooths out in the end, it's unusual for big drops to 'stick'.
If you're not using it already, I'd recommend using trendweight.com, nowadays I don't pay so much attention to the numbers when I weigh in (normally first thing in the morning, my eyes aren't open properly lol), and instead check trendweight to see if the numbers are still going in the right direction.0 -

What is the concept of the "trend weight" vs actual weight. Seems interesting but not sure I know what to make of it.
For example this is what I have and I don't know how they get such trend numbers.0 -

You'll gain it back, each time. You aren't dropping 5 in a day and keeping it off. Just water.0 -

Can't lose 5 lbs of fat in a day. Can't gain 5 lbs of fat in a day either. You can gain or lose 5 lbs in a day, though. You'll probably gain it back. Relax and enjoy the ride. Below is nearly 2 years worth of daily weigh ins (minus the gap in the middle). How many 5 lbs swings can you find?

The actual way the calculation is performed is described here: https://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/e4/pencilpaper.html
TL;DR/I'm Not a Math Person summary: it uses an average to smooth out the daily fluctuations, so you get a better picture of your "true" weight over time.
If you're curious, here's my trendweight data: https://trendweight.com/u/9534137f58e14a/ There's a 5 lb dip in weight in late June. I came down with a stomach bug -- and you can clearly see I gained it back as food and water gradually re-entered my body and weren't immediately expelled again. :P0 -

That pretty much sums it up! A hint though, give it a while to collect data before you start paying too much attention to it, it takes some time to even out when you first start logging with it.0 -
Thanks.
Those 5 lbs are still gone as of now though! (2 days later)0
