Hi! I am new to MFP, and just completed my third day logging my food and exercise. Doing ok with the food part, for now. Exercise - not so much. I find it very motivating to read all of your stories. It reminds me that I am not alone. I struggle with an addiction to sugar. My worst time of day is in the evening, so I try to use that time to stay active, or check in here. Thanks to everyone for sharing your stories.

Hello Nekatzuki,
I'm Journey and I'm new here too. I just joined yesterday and today I've been on my computer ALL day just browsing around this site, reading so many stories and trying to find my motivation to get up and do SOMETHING!! This is my biggest problem.....I sit all day at a desk job and when I get home in the evenings, I lay in bed and watch TV all night. I never, never, never exercise.
I have a sweet tooth too. I love sugar and sweets. I also have a bad habit of eating (junk food) late at night. I am a vegan but not a very healthy one. Even tho for the most part I don't eat enough calories, alot of the calories I DO eat are pretty null and void of nutrition. I do eat fruits and veggies, beans, seeds, nuts, etc., but I've been known to eat potato chips or a bowl of Cocoa Puffs for dinner too. And I love dark chocolate!! Yikes!! 125 calories and 9.5 grams of fat for two little squares!!
I need some encouragement and a good swift kick in the rear to get started on the road to recovery here. All these years of mistreating my body (smh....tsk....tsk). I need to make some REAL changes REAL fast!!
Best of luck to you...............Hope to see you around here!0 -
Welcome! Exercise isn't strictly necessary for weight loss. But it does help you gain strength and stamina. Plus, with regular exercise you can eat more than if you were totally sedentary, while still losing the same amount of weight. Finally, resistance training (lifting weights or serious bodyweight exercises like push-ups and pull-ups) helps ensure that most of the weight you lose is fat, not muscle.
The thing to do if you don't like exercise, or you're too busy to exercise much, is to find what Dr. Yoni Freedhoff calls your "toothbrush level" of exercise. Most of us don't like brushing our teeth, but we do so because we know it's good for us. For some people, exercise is like that. Read more at:

Personally, I enjoy cycling, running, and hiking, so it's easy for me to get aerobic exercise. I don't really enjoy weights, though, so I make myself do 20-25 minutes of bodyweight exercises, 2 or 3 times a week. That's my toothbrush level.0 -
I am on a long journey here. Making a lifestyle change and see that I will probably be here for years. I look forward to seeing everyones triumphs and it motivates me to do better. I have invested in a pedometer, do strength exercises everyday and do my best to get cardio in at least 4 days a week. I hadn't worked out in years and I feel fantastic. Loosing weight and getting my life back! Welcome!0
