HOW TO STAY HEALTHY WHILE EXERCISING

 I seriously need help. My weight is 120.5kg and every time I start my exercise programme (for me it is a slow pace walk for 40 minutes) I start off so well and love it, but then after about 2 weeks, my entire body just gives up, my chest closes, I get flue, my soles of my feet start cracking, (and I cream them each day and night), This is really discouraging as I love exercises but over and over again I just cannot get ahead, away from this flue and sick thing! Anyone suggest anything?

  • What about different types of exercises? cycling instead of walking? not sure onthe impact on your feet. Each time I increase my speed on the treadmill my feet go to sleep, sometimes I get down in the dumps, and everyone gets sick, no matter how active they are.

As long as you are eating a balanced diet, don't let the flu bother you. Not sure about your feet though. Would annoy me a lot if it happened to me!

    Several ideas come to mind:
    1) You might try getting fitted for running/walking shoes at a running store. Good shoes might really help.
    2) Lotion your feet before you go to bed and then put on socks over the lotion. I have heard this allows more to soak in.
    3) Change your exercize routine to something not foot-related or so foot-dependent. Swimming, perhaps? A video program?
    4) Check with your doctor to see if you have some kind of persistent condition. The chest closing thing comment you mentioned could be concerning.
    5) Start off much more gradually. Rather than 40 minutes. Start with 10 minutes per outing the first week. Work your way up to the longer walks. It could be that your body is just having trouble acclimating to the sudden burst of activity.

    Good Luck!!!

  • Thanks so much Cartergrt - the shoes, why did I not think of that, I have been walking in casuall shoes and so I am off to buy good walking shoes. The build up from less to more sounds better. I guess I am so keen to get going and then I just fall apart about being over enthuasit. Will try the cream and sock thingy - thanks. The doctor needs to check my chest is clear from flue then I should be ready to go. Swimming is a good idea, we have just moved to Israel so I need to find out where an indoor pool is, also I cannot waite for summer as the Mediteranean sea is so wonderfull to swim in- very calm - just like a big big pool.

    Thanks

  • Hi there, so I have bought good walking shoes and I must say - my chest pains are gone - I had acute bronchitis bla bla - the great news is that I managed a good fast pace 40 minute walk (my husband had the stick)- joking - his got these long legs so I had to walk fast - I really had a good walk as afterwards I could feel my legs tingling - you know that "good pain" where you have worked hard - so I have been building up slowly to get to this time - but will only do it three times a week and then gradually increase - since the new shoes my feet are so much better.
