calories over and under - help!

Can someone help me please?

I joined MFP on Sunday and by the end of the day was 176 calories under my allowance. On Monday I was 176 calories under my allowance. I had been exercising and these were some of the extra calorie allowance. The program said that my projected loss for the week would be 0.5 lb - not the 1 lb goal I had set and hoped for.

Today I ate out and despite exercising I am 207 calories over. When I was a weight loss teacher we told our classes that it was OK to go over and under provided it all balanced out by the end of the week. Would you say I am still on track or have I gone off the rails in trying to achieve my weekly target?

You need a 3500 calorie deficit to lose 1lb per week.... so 7000 to lose 2lbs, as long as you are doing that you should be good. Sounds to me like you are alright for the week. Just don't make it a habit of going over.

Your over and under numbers aren't that big, so I think you will be okay.

I think your philosophy is correct...as long as you're balancing out your allowed calories over a 2-3 day period I think you'll be fine and still reach your weekly goal. Some weeks I lose only 1 pound, other weeks I will lose 2 pounds, some weeks I don't lose anything but I don't gain weight either. Just remember, this is a lifestyle change that takes time, it's not a sprint.

Ah, thanks so much to all who posted. I really appreciate your help. I weighed myself this morning after my restuarant lunch yesterday at a Toby Carvery and I had lost a little more weight. I enjoyed myself eating out and even had an ice cream but had I realised that their Yorkshire puds were 331 calories I would not have had one. Still, I exercised as much as I could that afternoon.
