I used to buy only Chobani, but I think the quality has really gone downhill in the last year. More often than not it's really runny, which it didn't used to be. That plus the smaller serving size for the same price has made me resolve only to buy it when I absolutely have to. Fage is so much better quality. I try to stock up when they're 10/$10, but I'm to the point now that I'm willing to pay the full $1.49 for them, too.
I had a full fat Fage a week or two ago and it was amazing. It tasted so decadent! I know what my go-to treat is going to be when I haven't hit my fat macro for the day. The closest store to me (a Giant--OP, you must be from central PA, too, if you're shopping at Weis!) doesn't carry the full-fat varieties, but I'm willing to make a special trip to another store to buy them now.
I'm at college here in PA. Back in Jersey we have Shop Rite. :P
and shop rite carries Cabot which is the same quality/texture as Fage- but costs almost half.
I also support the thick creamy yogurt + berries- I'm a big believer in yogurt +protein + berries.

226 gram low fat Cabot + 5 oz berries + 29 grams gold standard = 240 calories at 42 grams protein.
come on- that's just ridiculous. And delicious.
Which is the calorie content of your protein powder? That is great that can get that much protein in that few calories.
It's Gold Standard Whey- which clocks in at 120 calories for 1 29 gram scoop- but I lied. I"M SORRY WILSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I must have been using a different yogurt when I ran those numbers originally- a full serving of LOW fat cabot is 190 calories
so
190 + 120 + 60 = 370-
half a serving of yogurt = 275
Half serving of protein = 310 (only 30 grams of protein though for the serving)
so I lied- I'm sorry- i must have been using mentally older numbers- I hadnt' check the stats on my more recent concoction.
Still 42 to 300 is not a shabby ratio- my stupid nut "protein" bar from nature valley are only 10 grams of protein and 190 calories LOL- id' have to eat almost 800 caloires to get that much protein.
I was thinking your math was wrong, because I do 170g Fage 2%(128 cals), 1 scoop ON (vanilla ice cream or double rich chocolate) for 120 cals, and 5oz raspberries (73 cal), for 321 cals0 -
I buy whole fat and mix in a tablespoon of Jello cheesecake pudding mix to make instant cheesecake filling. Most of the time I'll eat it with some Japanese cheesecake cookies or granola.
Hold on there...how much yogurt do you use with that tablespoon of pudding mix? I think this sounds like a heaven I may have to visit...often...
Fage was my first love with greek yogurt--however, it's NEVER on sale where I live and they rarely have anything other than 0% or strawberry. I started eating Chobani and Oikos and enjoy both. I'm not too upset with the slightly smaller size--it was likely either that or increased pricing (raw materials are EXPENSIVE). However, like a couple other people here, Noosa is my new favorite. OMG...so good! And their customer service is amazing!0 -

My gripe with Fage is the price. I love their Fruyo yogurt but I can't justify $1.69 a cup when Chobani or Yoplait is $1...0

I adore my Fage! The more fat, the better, but even the 0% is better than nearly any other brand I've tried. Sometimes I buy the giant tub of 0% at Costco, because that's a much better deal, but 2% and full fat are definitely my favorites.0

It does cost more to make. Greek yogurt is strained by about half. So they have to use twice the milk to make the same volume of yogurt.0 -

im sat here eating fat free Fage 0% as im reading the thread lol. To conquer my sweet tooth. I put in a table spoon of sugar free apricot smuckers, 1 splenda and topped with 1/4 cup of golden grahams for sweet crunchy goodness lol. I use fage for everything! I replaced sour cream with it. For baked potatoes I top with Fage with dried chives and garlic powder mixed in ( its like french onion chip dip). Its in my chicken tikka.
I too love it over chobani! Its so much more thicker, creamier and satisfying!0 -

Way to write some excellent food porn! LOL! thanks for pointing out the size change, I hadn't noticed that!! And thanks for reminding me that it's time to check out other brands. I usually just go to WalMart and in my area, the only good single serving brand is Chobani but I'll have to check the grocery store and see how their selection is. Their stock seems to change all the time so who knows, it may be time to go back to Fage. And yes, I know I can buy the big tub - I even did for a while - but I'll be honest, I'm lazy.0

I made my first batch of greek yogurt this past weekend. It was super easy and delicious. I have enough yogurt to last me 2 weeks for $3.50. I definitely recommend trying it if you eat a lot of yogurt.0 -

Yeah- I'm glad I rechecked it!!! not so much bad math- at some point whatever yogurt I was using- WAS lower- and probably half scoop of protein- DID wind up to be 240 something- but not with the cabot- so that was just mix match of product- but yeah- 300 calories is about right. really glad I double checked- i mean I know what it is when I look at it daily for my snacks- but I would hate to have someone think they were getting 250 calories and it was really closer to 300 plus!!!
The low fat stuff is great mixed with protein- you don't miss the full fat and you can have a full 226 grams of yogurt without the 300 calorie price tag. Love it. I've been moving toward eating a whole cup of full fat- and just making it a second meal- it's surprisingly filling!!!0 -

If you feel really poor, make your own yogurt. It's much cheaper, and strain away the whey and you have lovely yogurt. Do yourself a favor and just go whole fat, it tastes better and you'll feel fuller by eating less, and no emulsifiers or fillers. You can use the whey for shakes, to make bread, etc.0 -

This post made my morning. My coworker who is an avid fan of Chobani was eating Fage and confirmed that it is indeed better than Chobani. I will definitely be trying it soon.0

I love Fage too. Usually, I buy the 0% and don't mind it. Still much tastier than most of the other kinds even with higher fat. I have it almost every day for breakfast, usually with homemade marmalade or cranberry apple conserve.0
