Adventure with the scale this morning...

So I had a little adventure this morning. I have just moved into a new house and haven't really weighed myself for the last two weeks. Today I whipped out my scale to see how I did for the last two weeks in the bathroom upstairs. Two weeks ago I weighed 190.

The scale read 141. I was really confused. I then remembered to recalibrate it. I stepped on it again and it read 170....still not right. I stepped on it again and it said 181. Then I stepped on it again and it was back down to the 140's. The floor in the bathroom is tiled, I'm not sure what the problem is. I took the scale downstairs to the basement and weighed myself down there; it said 189.8. Which sounds more correct.

Does the floor in my bathroom suck that bad?

The same happened with me when I had a digital scale. It was fairly accurate in my previous house, but since moving, mostly everywhere was carpeted. Each time I would step on the scale it would have a 10lb difference each time, so frustrating! I changed the battery, still wouldn't work properly!
So I bought a non-digital scale as I guess that would give a more accurate reading!
    Hope you find a solution!

I had an issue with a scale once sinking into the floor when it weighed me. It dropped me down about 30lbs. Granted, in that case the floor was carpet. So, to answer your question, in my opinion, the floor does matter. And of course if your scale took some abuse during the move it might just need to recalibrate, or it may have sprung a spring or something.

I know you said you just moved, but I would find a place in the new house that you like and consistently weigh yourself there. Our kitchen has ceramic tiles, a nice hard surface, and I like to weigh myself there.

It's just frustrating because the bathroom floor is tile, not carpet. :grumble:

I know our Wii Fit scale had serious issues when we first got it. We couldn't get a consistent weight at all - we lived on the 2nd floor apartment and the floors creaked like mad anyway. Didn't matter what surface we put it on. We had to put it on a Wii Fit Stand that cost $30, but now it does its job perfectly. Solid concrete would also be better than any upstairs rooms, simply because underneath the hard tile is wood, which does move, if even slightly.

Is it an old house? Is the bathroom upstairs? If so it's possible the floor might have a slight incline.
  • Put a piece of wood or hard plastic on the floor and below the scale and try again. (That piece should be larger than the size of the scale.)

We do this when we do health checks at corporate offices that have carpeting where we do the health checks.
  • oh crap! that sucks....I have an old fashion scale with the needle that is positioned in the same place since day 1....

I'd go nuts seeing those wacky numbers...
