is 1050-1100 calories a day too little for a 5 ft petite young woman? i have a small frame and i'm pretty short, overall a petite person and always have been. is 1100 enough (not counting exercise cals) because i feel like it is for me.. plus i've read that for smaller, shorter women it's okay as an average daily intake. just wondering. plus i don't workout intensely most days. and actually plan on slowly increasing as i move on to different workouts. but to start out with i feel like it's okay? idk feedback...

^^this. How are you feeling with that intake? Do you feel tired or worn down? You are your own experiment, try different things and find what works for you0 -
If you are not counting exercise calories, then you are actually probably under 1000 right? 1000 calories is too few for anyone, especially if you are exercising. If you deprive yourself of calories your body will begin to burn muscle for fuel.0

I'm 5'1" and 27. When I started counting calories and was following MFP's default goals, it had me at 1380. It was fine for a while, but then my energy level and everything started to decline. I did some research and came to realize that for my age, weight, height, I should have been consuming at least 1500. So I increased my intake to about 1600 (I don't always reach this goal...especially on days when I'm extremely sedentary, but generally, I try to), and I found that it helped my mood and energy level significantly. And I'm still losing weight even if I'm eating 1500-1600 cals per day. Many sources will tell you that you should be eating at least 1200 calories. Ultimately, I would suggest that you figure out what your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is and at least consume that.0

As far as you don't feel tired and hungry, it's fine.
I am 5.11 and on under 1500 calorie intake from last 2 months. Lost about 14kgs so far. I eat apples when I feel hungry. So I think for a small girl like you , 1100 cal should be fine as long as you don't feel tired. Keep up the good work friend0 -

no i mean 1100, before adding in exercise calories, as in that's what i try to consume regardless and then eat back exercise calories as well.
and no i generally feel fine and satiated, and if i feel low on energy i eat something calorie dense like a banana & pb or something. i expect i will need to slowly increase my intake as i exercise more, but as of now i haven't been up to par on working out. (mostly due to depressive episodes/stress.. which is funny bc you would think i'd wanna exercise to help with my mood, lol. anyway) yes i have seen gradual weight loss, nothing too extreme. i will look into my BMR though. thanks for your replies0 -
I've noticed that even MFP has revised their minimum to 1000 calories per day. If you are feeling good, based on your stats, I would think it is sufficient. Just make sure your choices provide maximum nutrition.0

i feel pretty good around that range, haven't noticed any tiredness unless i've been feeling stressed/depressed but that's a different story. sometimes i don't make my calorie goals though (i don't really exercise on those days anyway) due to having no appetite from anxiety/depression, but like i said a whole nother story. and i'm working on the depression part, it's not gonna magic away. hoping as i exercise more it'll help my mood! and yes i always eat plenty of veggies & fruit, eggs, beans, fish etc etc you know. the usual.0

I can't get MFP to let me, a 4'10" 28yo any less than 1200 calories as a target, but I am often 50-100 cals under on proper sedentary days, where I don't exercise beyond the short walks between the car and my home/work offices.
this is giving me slow, but seemingly consistent weight loss when I stick to it properly.
Test it out and listen to your body - the others are right about needing to make sure that you are not getting into muscle-burning and you must make sure you're not starting to look like a zombie. If you do start looking ill, getting headaches and needing too much sleep, please do be sensible about it and get your calories back up!
All the best0 -
If you can sustain it, and get good nutrition. I don't see why not.0
