Losing weight & tattoos

Hi-- I'm looking to lose 100+ and wondering if anyone else has lost a significant amount and if so, has it changed your tattoos?? I have several on different sections... shoulders, arm, back....

It all depends on the amount of fat in the particular area, and how much of it goes away. I only got a tattoo after I lost the first 30kg, but it hasn't changed for the next 20kg. It is on my thigh though, and that part has always been relatively muscular.
  • Before the weight loss, I had one right above my breast, and another on my thigh. They haven't changed at all not sure about other areas of the body.
  • I got one on my hip when I was obese. It's a very simple one, no color. When I lost a lot of weight (90lbs) I noticed that area had shrunk a lot and the tattoo got a bit smaller and quite a bit darker.

As others have mentioned, it would depend greatly on the location of your tattoo.

like people have said, depends on where you get it....also how much detail is in it. I made sure to pick the prime "real estate" and go for areas that would be less affected by a change in body size such that a gain/loss wouldn't mess up my skin too much (something I have to keep in consideration since my skin has always really sucked in the way of elasticity anyway). I have one on my calf that hasn't changed at all and one on my upper back that has gotten a bit smaller/darker and has a fair bit of detail (script) that might have been hard to decipher had I not gotten it so large to begin with.
  • Yeah, it def depends on location. Mine on my ankle, foot, and back haven't really changed much over the past couple years. Maybe just a little darker?

I have ink all over, from when I was skinny at 18 to being over 300 to now, and have had no issues besides minimal fading from sun damage. You'd think the one over my heart would have done something because I went from a C cup in high school to a DDD and back to barely a DD and yet it's totally fine. The others are in areas that haven't changed much so are fine. Though I am working on my sleeve from the bottom up, just in case :)

good idea. of all the creepy skin bits on my body, my arms are actually the worst (my stomach is pretty bad too, but i guess because i expected what it looks like now it hasn't been quite as disturbing). if i stretch out the bit just on outer side of my armpit it looks like webbing between my side and about halfway down to my elbow. like if i could rig up something to keep it stretched out, i could literally jump off a cliff sans gear and hang glide to the bottom, no problem. i can only imagine what a tattoo on my upper arm would have looked like by now :S

I only lost 40 pounds but all my tattoos (I have 15ish) stayed the same except my octopus on my thigh. It just migrated inwards a little bit. Still looks great, just sits more inside which is good for me because I always wanted it more that way anyways.

    ETA:
I don't have close up pics but you should be able to see most of my tattoos in most of my profile pics if your'e interested.

My brother had a friend who had a tattoo around her belly button and she got pregnant. It was never the same again so she got it turned into something else. That being said, I'm not sure if she went back to her original body weight or not. Sorry that's a very vague answer.

One of my good friends from the high school days has gotten tattoos over the years.....one of the first ones she got was a fairly large dolphin on her upper thigh (think the fattest part on a 'typical' woman). It is very colorful and looked nice 15 years ago....however, three kids and fluctuations in weight (plus or minus 70 pounds) have taken a toll on mr. dolphin. It turned into a whale (her words, not mine) and back into a dolphin several times. In her case, it affected the tattoo (the weight loss/gains). That said, she has some on her wrist/ankle areas that have not had anything change with them.

Oh you silly thing. That really cracked me up. The mental picture you painted was awesome. I can relate, btw, and will be flying beside you after another 40 pounds I think. LOL times 10.
