I bought the cheap one at walmart, and it doesn't measure anything. I then went on Ebay and purchased one... a Polar F4 with a chest strap (they call it a transmitter). I got it for $60 on a buy it now, because it had been a display model in a store. Just watch for good deals on Ebay. I haven't had any luck with the auctions, because people know what they sell for retail, and you've pretty much got to be willing to pay that.
  • Academy Sports has a pretty good one for $50. i don't know if you can get them any cheaper than that.

I really like my Polar FT4. I got mine from Best Buy for $89. I think you can find them other places for less money.

I have a MIO drive petite watch which accurately measures without a chest strap. I love it. I got it from BJs for 30 dollars but on MIOs website it is 80 dollars.

I'm in love with my Polar FT7! I bought mine online for $110 with chest strap included. Had I known the YMCA had them for $75, that's what I would have done! Polar is a great line.

I got the Polar FT4 on ebay for $49.99 brand new in the box.

Not the same person I bought from but this person has 2: http://cgi.ebay.com/Polar-Heart-Rate-Moniter-FT4-Womens-NIB-L-K-/250763682600?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a62ae2328

Consumer Reports ranks some in their Feb Issue. The highest rated is Timex Personal Trainer T5G971 which retails for $50.00
#2 is Timex Zone Trainer T5J031 for $75 and 3rd is New Balance N5 for $72 - so sometimes it pays to spend lesss!

I got a really basic Polar model with chest strap for $38 at the club I work at. It works fine but it only stores one exercise at a time. I think I am going to splurge on a Body Media this week.
