Does it ever bother you when...

... you know someone who can eat whatever they want and not gain a pound? Now, now... I know most of you are going to throw a fit and say something like "Oh well they are obviously very active", "They probably don't eat crap", or "how would you know you're probably not around as much to see everything they eat!"
Nah man.
I'm talking about people like my boyfriend, my best friend, and a classmate of mine. We eat literally every meal together since we all go to the same college. My boyfriend eats nothing but junk food, and has the eating habits of an obese child (ew gross fruits and veggies). When he's not in class, he is always in front of his computer eating whole bags of chips to himself. My best friend, actually I'll admit, eats pretty healthy during meal times (she and I are both veggie addicts)... but during class she's always snacking on "cheese based" things (ei. goldfish, cheezits, etc) and when she's in her room she eats a lot of sugary things like donuts or cupcakes. Then there is "cat" (the classmate)... almost at every meal (and yes that includes breakfast) she always finishes with a giant bowl of ice cream covered in brownie bits and candy. Lunch and dinner always consist of at least three slices of pizza and whatever else looks good to her....

all three of these people are still amazingly skinny! They're beautiful/handsome. It just makes me so jealous and frustrated because I actually have to try and work for a good body.... It's just disheartening sometimes. I'm sure I'm going to get some trolls or "suck it up" people, as well as some lectures. But honestly, I just needed to rant and know if there are more people who can relate to this.

And don't worry... I'm not closed minded and think EVERY skinny person is like these three.... I know that some people legitimately have to try and maintain their body size/weight. And I respect people like that.

Nah, my best female friend has been underweight her entire life and never managed to gain a pound no matter how much she ate. I got her logging on here and she ate tons of crap and the scale still never shifted. Being underweight is just as rough as being overweight, I feel sorry for people like that.

Yeah, out of the three my boyfriend hates how skinny he is and he actually wishes he could gain a few pounds. My buddy doesn't care about her weight really (which i guess is good cuz then she's not self conscious). But Cat is always bragging about how good she looks and how lucky she is to be able to eat what she wants .... so it's a bit hard for me to "feel bad" for people who can't gain weight when she acts like that (she's my bud's friend not rly mine haha)

From what I have researched, some people are very inefficient at storing excess calories as fat. This metabolic fluke does exist. They are able to burn any calories their bodies don't need in the form of heat, even if they don't exercise. This process probably has something to do with what is called "brown fat". And strange as it may sound, this is evolutionary inferior to people who can store fat. Supposedly, storing fat is a powerful survival mechanism.

They may get away with eating that way now, but give them another 20 years or so, and their metabolisms will probably slow down. Then the weight could pile on unless they change their eating habits. Meanwhile, you are developing good lifetime eating habits, and someday your body will thank you for all those veggies!

Honest answer, in college I was like the people you are describing. I WAS active, I walked back and forth between classes and dorms and everywhere else, and I played lacrosse and trained for that. But, even without that, some times these people can be more active then they seem, constantly fidgeting and moving around in ways that you may not even realize. Also, there are things like height and how much muscle they're carrying that can have a big impact. I was tall and well muscled, my roommate was short and had no muscle to speak of, I could just flat out eat her because my body burned more for upkeep.

But....it did NOT last forever. I started grad school and became more sedentary, had less time for outdoor activities, started driving to places more and less walking, and I just got older. Now don't get me wrong, I can still eat A LOT, you can actually check my food log if you want  , but now I have to keep track of it. Because I got so used to being able to stuff myself in college, I now have to pay attention, because I can easily out eat what I work off! But yes, the truth is, I get to eat more than a woman who is very petite. Them's the breaks sometimes.

I know people who ate like that in college and looked great, but look like balloons now. Not HUGE but...like a balloon.

This might explain i http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i_cmltmQ6A Worth a watch anyway
  • I agree with what is being said.............they MAY find that this does not carry on with age. I remember being able to eat a LOT more when I was younger.
ALSO, I agree 1000% with the member who said 'You are developing good habits for life'. There is more to it that being 'thin' and your body WILL thank you for all the veggies and healthy foods you consume. :)

Keep logging,.... I am SURE that you are a beautiful person, and everyone likes to have a 'rant now and again :) xxx

Yes, the friends I've had like that, the ones I've known for years, started to look like snakes that had swallowed an egg in their 40s. By their 60s, they look like the rest of us. LOL

Try living with someone who has little appetite and has to force herself to eat. No she's not ill, this has been going on for 30 years. She'll say things like: "I'm not hungry but I NEED to eat". And ”I forgot to eat today." My joking response is: "No one wants to hear that crap".

She a healthy weight, not underweight. When we first got married, she drank high calorie shakes to keep her weight up. Grrrr.

    Yup...hate it with a passion!

Both my wife and 16year old daughter are like that. We can eat a huge dinner with me...and then graze all night on cakes, chips, pizza, wine, cheese, bread..and not gain an oz. Me...I even smell a wiff of egg whites and I gain.

Even worse is I train easily twice as many hrs as my wife...and when we have our medical exams done..she still beats me in every category..for example, my resting heart rate is 54...her's mid 40s.

Oh well...back to my egg whites:sad:

My 21yo son is like this..... but it's caching up to him. It never lasts. All his life he's been able to eat what he wants & be so thin you could see bones..... now he still eats it all & is heavier than me, putting on weight & as active as he's always been.

Does it bother me? Did it bother me? Not in the slightest.
