Going to start

Ive been doing the gym 4 nights a week but this is going to have to drop to 2 as hubby has some commitments to make in the evening.

So Im thinking of starting to run in the morning before he goes to work for an extra workout. Ive got a painful achilles tendon atm though. And Im HEAVY, im 5-3 and 248lb

Any general advice?

Cheers. Thinking will have to run/walk at first anyway as I can literally run for 30 seconds.

    Couch to 5K (C25K) is a great beginner's program: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

If you find 60 seconds of slow running to be too much, here's a pre-C25K program that will help: http://coacheaglesgirl.blogspot.com/2011/07/pre-c25k.html

The C25K subreddit is, unlike much of the rest of Reddit, fairly supportive: http://www.reddit.com/r/C25K

Before you start, let the Achilles tendon recover, and visit a running shop if at all possible to get fitted for a good pair of shoes, with appropriate cushioning in the soles. When you start, take it easy; it's not a race, and going slowly is the best way to build endurance while avoiding injury. For beginners, the C25K plan of running 3 days a week is ideal. Three runs will allow you to make progress, while giving enough rest days for your muscles, tendons, and ligaments to adapt to the stress of running. After you've been running for a few months, you can increase the frequency if you want, but if you do that, cut back your daily miles so that you're not increasing total weekly distance by more than 5-10%. It's also a good idea to take an easy week every 3 or 4 weeks, with less mileage and slower runs.

    And have fun!

    Thank you

Going to see the GP re the achilles though I suspect it will be NSAIDS and rest so probably try a week of regular brufen before i lace up my shoes! Its kind of a chronic problem from my job.
