I heard Gastric Bypass can make you poop more

Ok, I'm serious. I heard Bypass surgery makes you go poop more than the gastric sleeve. Is this true? I'm trying to decide which surgery to get.

    Get neither.
  • I'm being serious... I'm was leaning towards the gastric sleeve. I have suffered with IBS with constipation all my adult life. Then I read an article by Rosie O'Donnell who said she was told gastric bypass makes people poop more. So she got the sleeve. I read this and I'm starting to think Bypass may also help with my constipation problem and help me lose weight.

Agreed. Neither if at all possible.
Take weight loss slow and make stable, life-altering healthy choices. Make changes slowly so you'll stick with them. Don't give up. The weight will come off with time and diligence and no surgery.

Just saw your 2nd post: you need to talk the options over with your doctor. We can't help with decisions like this that include more than weight loss.

The surgery will only temporarily solve the problem that led you to gain weight (overeating). It is not a permanent solution.

I can't say that it would make you poop more ( longterm), perhaps at the beginning when your digestive system is learning to metabolize different foods you would, but I can tell you for sure, that when you do poop- everyone in the near vicinity knows it ! Odorific! Poopouri spray, matches, mini febreeze spray are staples for those unexpected bathroom visits ( work, etc).
  • I know there's a valid argument for having surgery to help with weight loss (there's a few people on here that have successfully had the surgery and it's served as a springboard to a new fitter lifestyle).
However, it just seems so extreme. Have you really exhausted traditional weight control methods??
Also, you can still overeat and gain weight after having it if you can put up with the side effects.

+1 for eating a bit less, moving a bit more and having patience.

At 23, with 70lbs to lose, you really don't need to be resorting to drastic surgery to lose weight. Honestly. You can do this without it, I promise you. The surgery is a last resort, and there is no going back. Please, reconsider.
