Firefighter Injury Prevention

I'm a firefighter who was just cleared to go back to work after an ACL surgery. I've always been moderately fit and healthy, but as I'm getting older I'm learning that an ounce of prevention now is better than feeling awful later. I'm looking to get in the best shape of my life now to minimize my chances of hurting myself on a scene again.

I'd love to make friends with folks who want to keep their bodies running as efficiently as I do. Feel free add me and we can motivate each other.

    Hi,

Good to hear that you have recoved from your surgery, I know recovery can take a long time.

I dont have near the active life-style, I have a pretty sedentary job unless you count walking to the copy room  but I do want to get into a better more healthy weight to be able to keep up with my daughter. Motivation is a big key in becoming a success on MFP. Feel free to add me, I am not yet as fit and healthy but I can help motivate!

Firefighter here as well - I've moved to a more cardio centered program from a 4 day split strength training program.

    I'll send a request.

I'm pretty excited for the new routine I've started. I'm not sure how shifts work up there, but we do 24 on, 48 off, and I'm on Unit 1 days. Right now I'm focused on losing body fat percentage, and restoring flexibility that I haven't had since I was young. During therapy after surgery, I joined the YMCA and started working out there in my off days. They have a myriad of options for exercise there so I'm not doing the same thing all the time.

Unit 1: Endurance & Flexibility (Rest Strength) I work today, so I want to save my energy for calls.
Unit 2: Strength & Endurance (Rest Flexibility) This is my day off after work. I can hit it hard today.
Unit 3: Strength & Flexibility (Rest Endurance) Since I work tomorrow, I work out moderately today.
