Cannot wear shoes

I have a very intricate foot tattoo and I only missed 3 days of exercise and tennis shoe wearing. I covered the tattoo in a great deal of Aquafor lotion (something like that, I might have the name slightly off), then covered it in plastic. If at any point I felt some friction I just reapplied. I have no fading on my tattoo. It was a little painful, just because my foot was so tender but only for a day or two. Just my experience!

Um, what are you going to wear on your feet if you go biking if not sneakers or clip-ins? Same with lifting. Are you planning on lifting barefoot? Not the best idea IMO. Yes it will hurt if you drop a weight on your toe with shoes on but it will hurt a heck of a lot more if you're barefoot.
Actually, I lift barefoot all the time. Much better for posture.
If I lift in a conventional gym I wear Converse.0 -
I do work out videos, like Jilians 30DS with no shoes, and others, I do weights with no shoes, but when I do lunges, my foot slips, so if its lunge day, wear shoes, and biking, I would always wear shoes, flip/flops are okay, but I've had my foot slip off and road rash on the toes, not fun, so if I'm riding for a fast pace exercising, I'd wear tennies,
and I was told a foot tattoo would heal in about 3-4 weeks, I suppose some artist give different advice..0 -
swim or vinyasa yoga0

Wow. I didn't realize I was the only person who's not a proponent of exercising barefoot.
Shoes provide no real protection from weights in a lifting environment.
OP - I would NOT swim, considering what the chlorinated water could do to the integrity of your tattoo.0 -
If a tatoo takes 7 weeks to heal, something is wrong.
cant believe it took this long for this to be mentioned.
7-8 WEEKS?!

Bandage it or cover in plastic wrap with taped edges and ointment. As far as barefoot, yoga seems like a good idea. But depending on where the tattoo is, you may have the skin pulling in all directions.0

I have lifted barefoot before. I lived to tell and I still have all my toes.
However, 7-8 weeks seems excessive. I have a foot tattoo (on the top) and I think I went maybe a week with it uncovered (flip flops, mary janes, etc) But I guess it depends on where yours is.
This...my tattoos only took 7-10 days to heal.0 -
probably going to depend on your agility while wearing flip flops or barefoot.
I have not worn shoes in years and I seem to manage fine doing everything I want. Including biking, lifting, hiking whatever.
You haven't worn shoes? Like all you wear is flip-flops or you're always barefoot? I'm fascinated and I hate shoes. Elaborate.0 -

Yes, please elaborate. Inquiring minds want to know. (How do you go to the grocery store?)0 -
I lift barefoot.0

barefoot lifter for over 2 years
The only time I dropped a plate on my foot was when I was rearranging the home gym.0 -
Actually- you cannot submerge your feet in water for any length with a tattoo. water does carry bacteria, too.
>>in regards to the person who posted about doing aquatic workouts0 -
Remember- humans were never meant for shoes- lift shoe-less with caution. You'll be fine. and actually you may just heal faster than the projected 7 weeks. I healed completely in 3 weeks.0

Look into a product called Landerm (they sell it on amazon). I still wouldn't recomend wearing shoes all day, but the landerm will protect your tattoo when you have to wear shoes. I would never think of healing a tattoo without Landerm no matter where it was placed.
ETA:
There's a simlar product called Saniderm (I think) that they also sale on Amazon. I haven't tried it but it does seem to get good reviews. Landerm was the first one I tried and I thought it was great so I never bothered to try the other one. I don't remember which one was cheaper...0 -

swimming. You can either swim laps, tread water, walk around the edge of the pool, or take an aquatics class. Great workout and isn't going to damage your new tat.
False.
You're not supposed to submerge a new tat for a couple of weeks.

yeah no- bad bad bad advice. please don't do this.
also 7-8 weeks? ??? I was back in the gym within a week- shoulder was sore- and was definitely tight- but not a crisis after it's closed up.0 -
Biking in flip-flops or bare feet is no bueno. If you wipe out, you could catch your feet in the chain or spokes and get seriously hurt-- especially if you're riding at a pace for burning calories, 10MPH+.
I ride my stationary bike at 10mph barefoot and no chain/spoke worries. That's one option.
Exactly!!!! NO worries! I have done it several times as well0 -
You will be fine within 7-10 days. I had mine done and was back in shoes working 12 hours in the ED within 4 days. As long as you clean and cream regularly and dont pick its all good, mine healed beautifully0
