Running while smoking, and then after quitting smoking

Hello,

I've been running for the last 5 years, and have been a smoker for the last 15 years. I've ran multiple 1/2 marathons, and about 5 months ago, I decided that it was time for me to quit smoking, and I couldn't be more happy with that decision. When I quit smoking 5 months ago, I actually stopped running also. Well fast forward 5 months, and I just went for a run for the first time. Not sure if it's just because I'm a little out of shape from not being as active, or it's a side effect of quoting smoking, but my lungs were burning a little, and I felt like there was a little limp in my throat. I also had almost a metallic taste in my mouth. I'm thinking it's just because my lungs are starting to utilize more of their true capacity, but was wondering I anyone else have experienced anything similar?

i would wager it has a lot more to do with being out of shape than quitting smoking. i didnt notice any difference in my running when i quit smoking either good or bad

I did notice a huge difference. A couple of days after my last cigarette I went for an almost effortless 13 km run, while that would have been unthinkable during the time when I was smoking. My lungs cleared right up. But then, I did not quit running like you did...
