Not losing weight!

Hi,
I haven't yet started my diary so i cannot yet share but I have been training with a PT for just over 4 weeks now, paying around £200 a month (ridiculous I know). They are 30min sessions and I do 3 a week. I can sometimes lose one pound but it comes straight back.
I am on a strict diet and I am eating clean / drinking plenty of water.
I am 18 years old, 5ft 11, 190.4lbs and wish to eventually reach 147lbs. I would happily like to try and lose 2 stone by Christmas this year!
Any advice?
[I used to be really fit and let it slip. I am so unhappy with my weight I am / have tried everything. It is starting to affect the way I think about myself. I would like some advice and not for someone to preach at me, seeing as we are here for similar reasons...am I right?]
Kind Regards,
Nicole

That's a lot of weight to lose in a short period of time, especially as you are only a bit over-weight. I wouldn't set yourself up for failure by trying to lose 2lb a week. I would go for a max of 1lb a week so you learn to eat at a good level for life - you are young so you have plenty of time to get to your desired weight.
Definitely measure everything you can, keep the diary, etc.
You might want to check out the TDEE method where you don't eat back calories as they are figured w/in the calculations. Go for TDEE-15% in order to lose weight but keep as much muscle as you can. Think of this as a journey and not a sprint!

Two stone is just over two pounds a week, which is only recommended for the extremely obese.
How long has it been since you lost? I'm assuming you're on 1200 calories a day...that's too low for your body/age. Change your deficit to a pound a week, and make sure you're weighing every bit of food and measuring your drinks.0 -
My PT thinks that I am able to lose 2lbs a week roughly...Which I know is a lot.
I am not crazy overweight but I am an awkward shape, love handles, and they stop me from finding nice clothes that fit, being confident...etc
I will lower everything down and track my diet.
Thank you both for replying so quickly!!!

No open diary, no way to see whats being consumed. All the exercise in the world will not overcome overeating. These posts are boring and redundantly redundant.

If your doing a lot of weight training / heavy lifting your going to gain the first few weeks, don't get discouraged. Talk to this trainer your spending money on, they should be able to explain what is happening and / or give you recommendations to help with weight loss.
While 2 pounds a week is ambitious it is not impossible / dangerous, just harder to maintain over the long term.
Keep focused, keep going. Good luck.0 -
Diet = weight loss, exercise = fitness. Get a food scale, weigh and log all your foods, report back in 1 month. But an active young and tall female needs more than 1200 calories. In fact, most of them I know eat 1700-2100 (usually at the higher end)0

Isn't 147 a bit too low for someone your height?0

Isn't 147 a bit too low for someone your height?
it's about 15 lbs above the lowest acceptable weight, so no.0 -
not if her body fat gets down to the 18-20% range. My own trainer tells me I'll get down to 18% body fat (Not likely in the short term, but an attainable goal)0

Couple your exercise (light weight lifting and cardio mix) with a more modest goal for your weight. Remember, it is not always about weight lost but body size reduction. The more muscle you want to keep, the higher the total weight you will be at the end.
I am almost your exact height, and I found that when I was down around 170 pounds I was too small. As others have said, track everything going in you mouth. You may find that 1500 cal/day is more appropriate. Focus on lots of fresh veg and lean meats. You will find you will be happy with your body soon enough.0 -

If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal
Lift heavy...look up starting strength or stronglifts0 -

Excuse me but as stated, I have only just started, literally today, on this app. If you have nothing nice to say please do not reply to my post. I was looking for some advice not for some heartless bloke to tell me that I am overeating when I am NOT.
Jog on. (pun intended) :grumble:0 -
Start logging food. Calorie deficit = weight loss. Use a food scale. You can eat clean all you want. If you blow your calorie deficit you'll stay the same weight or gain. So, just get in the habit of logging and just see where you're at. But don't really trust the calorie burns MFP gives you. They overestimate by a lot.0

Just keep in mind, the internet has all kinds of people.
With that said, just concentrate on the useful post. Also, recommend you look at the stickies.0 -

Weight loss is a result of calories in being less than calories out. Just because you are following a healthy eating plan and working out does not mean you are eating few enough calories to lose weight. Log ever single thing every single day for a month and see what your results are. If they are not in line with what you expect then come back and ask for advice.
These posts are great for beginners and can help you set a good calorie goal and help you avoid newbie mistakes:

I had cut back on eating before joining MFP and found I was still not losing weight. When I started to count my calories I found that I was still over eating even though I cut back on how much I usually ate and did not even realize it. Counting calories has helped me sooooooo much! I bet when you start doing that then you will see that you will begin to lose weight every week.0

haha. great mindset. why make a thread then?0 -
Diet is about 85-90% part of losing weight. I am also 5'11" and spent most of my life between 185-195lbs. I am now down to 165 which is completely comfortable for me. It's not about the number but how you feel!! You can do this!! It's great that you're working out, but how much you're eating has A LOT to do with whether or not you're losing weight. Use the food journal on this website. It'll keep you accountable and you'll soon see how many times you reach for that extra helping of dinner or an extra treat because you had a great workout...it adds up!! Good luck to you!0
