Wait, why aren't we eating dairy now? I get that sugar is the devil and apparently we have "Good" carbs and "bad" carbs, but what's wrong with dairy?

eta: 'splain me these bad carbs of which you speak.

etaa: im going to try to be blunt without being mean. dude...you just started. you have 152lbs to lose. you dont need to worry about "bad carbs" and sugar and 90-day challenges...you need to reduce your intake to a healthy deficit, and focus on that. this is not rocket surgery. read these:

dont worry about recruiting people to join you in some difficult restrictive plan...start with the basics and do you.

go calculate your estimated TDEE (google TDEE first), and eat 75-80% of that.
want a snickers? HAVE A SNICKERS...just make it FIT in your day.

No sugar, but fruit is ok?

When you mean "added sugar" say "added sugar". Saying "no sugar" eliminates way more food than you think it does.

How about you do it first and report back in 90 days? I'm guessing we'll see you back here, oh, about never.

    You're way too nice.

    i get it.

he just started....he's motivated and determined!

buuuuuuut he was fed the wrong information and now he is focusing all this positive energy on going about it the wrong way.

tbh, i feel for the OP.
a lot to lose and already setting himself up for failure.
if we can steer him the right way, his success will not only be healthy, but sustainable as well.

cmon OP....you can do this, man. dont fall for some BS you saw on dr oz, or read on some blog.

Here's my take on this whole thing. If it's hard for you to stick to restrictive diets - don't do it. Just watch and track everything you eat and eat less. That should work, but it doesn't work for me. I have to cut out certain foods to actually lose some weight. I have been eating a much lower number of carbs than normal and I have managed to lose 10 lbs in 30 days. I avoid bread, pasta, potatoes, tortillas, carrots, peas, rice, and sugar. I eat fruit but not on a daily basis. I eat Atkins products if I need a sweet treat. I basically eat salads or a meat and a veggie for my lunch or dinner. I am in for the 90 day challenge because I am determined to eat this way for a very long time. Send me a friend request and maybe add support of any kind will work for you.

I am in!! I just started the advanced package from Herbalife (I'm a distributor). I've already lost 20 pounds in month 1, and still have 70 more pounds to lose total. My goal is 20 pounds for Oct and 15 for Nov & Dec (taking it slow). I would love support as I reach my goal weight of 140 by Christmas. I am 195 right now.

Wait? You think 15 lbs a months is taking it slow? That's like 3.5lbs a week.

I'm guessing you'll be asking Santa for some muscle for Christmas, as your plan will result in losing most of yours.

I just wanted to drop by and say that I've tried something similar and it is tough for many long term. Restrictive diets are hard to stick to and when you "fail" the diet you feel pretty bad about it and either quit or start unhealthy behaviors to make up for it. I think making 80% of your diet fruits, vegetables and lean meats is a great idea. Cutting out dairy isn't a horrible thing and if you happen to be mildly allergic you could see less bloating. Also, reducing other carbohydrate sources will help you drop some water weight. I suggest adding rice, potatoes and oatmeal. There really are no "bad" carbs and labeling food good or bad is mentally harmful. There are foods that are great sources of vitamins and nutrients, but balance is important in the long run.
