Any Ideas? I'm Stumped

My Dad just recently underwent Chemo for cancer and a result to that is very close to no immune system, so the common cold could hospitalize him. My question what type of foods could he have that is healthy for him to help him fight off anything that his body might find a threat. As well, what type of foods would you suggest. He is already on a lot of veggies like kale and stuff like that.

That's a tough one. I hope he will get better really soon.

I don't think any food out there will really protect him against anything, but just go with the wide principle that a healthy body is feed from healthy food. I always fell better after 2 days eating fresh vegetables than fried and battered stuff.

Keep the veggies high, lean meat, grains, etc... look up super food, it's usually loaded with nutrient.
I'm a big fan of soup and stew, just because it's so easy to load it up with nutrients, protein, fibers, etc in such a delicious way.

I would research the types of things that transplant patients can eat and go from there. They have the same suppressed immune system because they are on drugs to artificially suppress in order to not reject the new organs. He should be watching out for "organic" stuff because that just means natural not chemicals going into growing the plants (no pesticides, using poop to fertilize, etc.).

    Good luck in your search!:flowerforyou:

Mushrooms. Like Shiitake, Porcini, Portabella. You also might consider a supplement of organic mushrooms like Stamet's Comprehensive Immune Support. He could easily double the dosage since it's only a food.

My sister was told no RAW or undercooked fruits or vegetables. For a while, all she could tolerate was bland, white foods - mashed potatoes, pasta, cream soups, etc.

While it may not keep your dad out of the hospital, I bought my mom the book, "What to Eat During Cancer Treatment" endorsed by the American Cancer Society. It went over well with her. Through cancer treatment her tastes and food tolerances changed. The book lists recipes by what symptom he has (eg nausea, taste alteration, weight loss). If you have a lot of food allergies, it's not the best book, (mom doesn't) but the receipts seem diverse enough that you can find something else. Also, I found often (but not always) the book explained by something was added. So I could delete that item from the recipe if I knew mom wouldn't want it.
