I LOVE to use music as a motivator at the gym. I've had pretty much the same workout playlist on my iPhone for the past year. I'm wondering, what songs, artists, or genres do you like to listen to when you workout?

  • The Rocky four theme tune works everytime for me.

I would like to see lists of peoples' workout playlist. A list of songs that last 30-60 mins would be great to see.

I find aggression in music pumps me more than beat. Light days - Iron Maiden or Black Sabbath. Heavy workout - Pantera or Anthrax.

I listen to alternative and harder rock music - that gets me motivated. My favorite groups are Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, 30 Seconds to Mars, Foo Fighters, Lifehouse, Shinedown. I usually put together a mix of the faster paced music. It is great to run or walk to!

My list goes from such artists as Justin Moore all the way to Hatebreed to Jay Z. Really what I do is go through my iTunes find something I can feel during my workouts and add it in. I need to update my list.

I also take zumba. That would be great motivational music. Could you send me a list of your songs?

go to Nikeplus.com, if you don't know what Nike has introduced for all walkers and runners (chip that clips on to your shoe that keeps track of your runs, you then download to a fantastic, fun program they have online) you really need to check it out. Besides that, their website has tons of preloaded "power songs"-playlists to choose from. Greatest workout tool ever!
  • I just found this website which helps you to find music according to the style that you and the BPM (beats per minute). Perfect for when you want all of your playlist to keep a uniform tempo!

I was just about to post something similar! My current playlist is...

    Rebel Girl by Bikini Kill
    Jumpin' Jumpin by Destiny's Child
    Extreme Ways by Moby
    Chinese Burn by Curve
    Crazy In Love by Beyonce
    Stronger by Kanye West
I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor by The Artic Monkeys
    Bodyrock by Moby
Keep on Livin' by Le Tigre
    Boyz by MIA
    Liztomania by Phoenix
    Run On by Moby
The Kids Don't Stand a Chance by Vampire Weekend
    Single Ladies by Beyonce

Such a weird mix of big name pop stars and less-known indie stuff. Oh well! I sometimes just put on an album like Monster by REM, The Woods by Sleater Kinner, or anything by Moby.

I love Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, NSync, and Maroon 5.

I also enjoy really good movie soundtracks, like Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, Footloose, and Flashdance, just to name a few.

Check out Self, Shape, and Fitness magazines online. If you type in playlist, you'll get tons of music selections to motivate you. Some are indie, but others are popular now, and a few are retro. A great one I found there is called Universal Mind Control. I can't think of who sings it right now....

  • I love the Genius playlist on my Ipod...I let it pick me a new workout playlist every time. For me it has to have a strong beat, I'll range from Rock to Rap to Techno.

I love Pandora radio @ pandora.com, you make a list of artists you like and it plays similar artists! Some days I use rock and others rap just depends if I'm doing more lifting or cardio
  • To help motivate, I've been listening to my guiltiest of pleasures in terms of pop songs: Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg "California Gurls," Lady Gaga w. Beyonce "Telephone," and Avril Lavigne "Girlfriend"!

but also something like "Secret Plans" by Eagles of Death Metal, David Bowie "Golden Years", Grateful Dead "Shakedown Street" gets my booty shakin' :)
