No 65-Year-Old is Gonna Outrun ME Again!!!

Yesterday, I had a wonderful, invigorating day walking and jogging a local nature trail with my loved ones.

I also got left in the dust by a 65-year-old.

Now, I am no stranger to fitness walking. I even completed a half marathon 2 years ago, walking 13 miles in just under 4 hours. I am half-way to my goal weight, having lost about about 40 pounds. But DAMN if my boyfriend's mom, who is 65 years old, didn't leave me in the DUST yesterday! :(

I spent our entire 2.5 mile walk BRINGING UP THE REAR with my little toddling nieces. Granted, I was in flat Converse sneakers (not the best for walking long distances), and had just eaten a bunch of popcorn and was feeling a bit loggy, but I was blown away!

My boyfriend's mom was NOT jogging, she was just WALKING, and even when I jogged I could barely keep up with her!

I am using this as NEW MOTIVATION! I am gonna start adding SPEED AND AGILITY DRILLS to my daily walks (and making sure my walks are DAILY), in addition to the new body weight strength training I am doing.

I am 30 years old...I can become MUCH faster than I am!

Ugg, tell me about it. I'm always getting passed on my bike by old and/or fat people.

    This makes great motivation!

I feel the same way. I was in a triathlon a couple weeks ago and they put our ages on the back of our legs with permanent marker. I hated getting passed by those 10-15 years older. Definitely made me work harder.

Just a reminder that age and weight aren't always associated with fitness levels. Your boyfriend's mom sounds awesome.

I did a 5k in June. As usual, I would pick a person ahead of me, set my goal to pass that person, do it, pick a new person, etc. After the fifth passee or so, my next person was a walker. Holy cow that guy was booking it. He was probably the hardest to catch up with. It reminded me of the episode of Malcom in the Middle when his dad became a race walker.

I will have to check out that episode because, if memory serves, the dad was played by Bryan Cranston. As being a HUGE Breaking Bad fan, i love me some Bryan Cranston :)

I did a 5k earlier this year where the finishing order was a 12 yr old, me (41), then a 65 yr old who beats me about half the time. It happens.

All of us were sub 22 minute on the 5k.
