i fell off the fit wagon

Good Morning all. My name is Lisa. I got a divorce in 2011. Found new love with an old flame from high school. I have 4 boys, he has 5 girls. I had a whole new life to get used too. With my new family and happiness, I lost track of my goals and wound up gaining a ton of weight back. Now I am 40 and my knees ache, my feet ache, and I go thru moments of depression. I believe most of this is due to the weight gain. SO.... I am resetting my goals. I have been trying to do this with out MFP but, this site helped me a lot several years ago. Hoping I can find some new friends and get back on the FIT wagon train!!

    Hi

The best place to begin is at the beginning.

All you have to do is lose 1 pound 48 times. Not 48 pounds, all at once.

That kick to get it done comes from inside....

The fact you are reaching out and being honest about your struggle is a sign of growth and progress, for which you should be commended. Take comfort in that.

The difference between MFP and everything else? If you adopt the mindset that its a lifestyle change & not a diet, the rest will fall into place.

The past is done. The future will be here soon enough. Try and focus on today & today only. Its all we have to work with.

4.5 months ago, I weighed 312 pounds. I woulda been dead in 5 years if I hadn't made this commitment. All signs were pointing that way.

Just a few things the MFP tribe and common sense has taught me:

    1) This is a thing you DO, not a definition of who you ARE. Just like laundry. Take the emotion out of it wherever possible. I cannot stress this enough.

    2) My approach? This is a lifestyle change, not a diet. So there is no finite number of days that I am trying to get to. I will be logging in and logging food for the rest of my life, because:

    a) This program works
    b) I don't want to die young and I was headed that direction

    3) Try to remember - We are the results of the choices we make every day, whether those choices are good or bad. Make as many good choices as you can, and the ship will stay steady. At the end of the day, we are the man in the mirror. We are accountable to ourselves and no one else. We can help you with getting there, but the doing is up to you. Leave rationalizing at the door, and continue to be honest with yourself. Its the only path to long term success

Cal tracking is considered a good choice (whether boring or not) because it tells you where you really are (just like your check register tells you your balance) - remember to be honest with yourself all the time. Ultimately, you will achieve that which you are seeking much sooner.

Knowing that plus the support I get from my MFP buds make enough difference that Ive lost 36 in 137 days without doing anything stupid. You just find what works and then hammer the crap out of it, staying in the present while doing so.

If you will stay committed to this, your MFP tribe will commit to helping. Why? Because that's what we do. And we have ALL been there.

    FR on the way.

don't beat yourself up over "falling off". you are human, just get back on and you will get there again. you have done it once...you know what it takes, you can do it again. feel free to add me if you like. :0)

Thanks everyone for the support. At my work we get a yearly exam that test our bone density, blood work, blood pressure, etc. u fill out a questionnaire and 1 of the things it will tell you is the age according to your health. i was 2 years older this time. That is another reason i know i need to get back on the health wagon.
I agree, it is a lifestyle change and not a diet. Last time i got on the fit wagon i was reading a health and fitness book. i need to go thru my book shelf and find that book. It asked questions about why you want to get healthy and the first chapter really got me motivated. i never finished reading the book though, so since i deleted all the games off my phone (candy crush, bubble witch saga, monster busters) i plan i taking up reading again as my main relax time hobby.
Again thank you for all the comments and the offers for support.

I also used this site a few years ago and did very well. Now I'm so confused with all the diets I've tried. There's the Eat To Live, Chris Powell's Carb Cycling, meat - no meat. My head is spinning just thinking about it! So here I am back to the beginning again. This site is really the best out there. All you have to do is track what you eat and exercise. It's as simple at that. So I believe if we help each other as best we can we can do this. I'm in!
  • Good Morning! I fell off the wagon too so I feel your pain. Sounds like you have a positive attitude and back on track now. I have not been here for 16 months so today is my first day back. Good Luck to you!
  • Hi Lisa, my name is Marsha and I to just came back to MFP and the best part this time is the app I downloaded on my phone. If you have a phone where you can download apps I suggest you put this app on there. I work outside of the house so at lunch time I use my phone to record my lunch or I sometimes record it as I make it.
Just remember you are doing this for you and to make you a healthier person. I too have feet problems so I am hoping by losing this weight it makes them better. Keep us posted on how you are doing we are all here for you.

Yes i do have it downloaded on my phone. i just wish i could find the message board on there. But it is so nice to be able to input the info as you go. when i started dating my husband, it made it hard to find time to input the info and enjoy the time with him and the family.
