Need some motivation

I never thought I'd be back on MFP but here I am! I had lost about 40 pounds a few years ago and kept it off for a while, but two surgeries (and two breakups!) derailed me. Big time. I've gained everything back and then some, and I now weigh a whopping 260.

Good news -- I'm now getting married! My wedding is in September 2015 and I'd like to lose 60 pounds by then. Losing the 40 pounds took me about four months, so I know I can do it. I'm just having trouble getting motivated!

Does anyone have any tips for me to get back in the game? I could really use some motivation!

I'd think your wedding would be pretty motivating. Make a picture of your dream dress the background of your desktop. Make MFP your homepage and start logging daily. Do it even when you don't feel like it.

Since you've been down this road before, you pretty much know what it takes to get there. It's just getting your body to agree with you on what you need to do :).

Here's something that can get you motivated: If you haven't gotten your wedding dress yet, go get it. Try it on, and then have them slim it down to the size you want it to be. Now, you HAVE to do what it takes to shed the weight!

Get your diet in check, have a workout program put together for you, and STICK TO IT. If you need any advice, friend me and we can talk more about it.

Another motivation tip: Write out what your ideal weight and life is like in somewhat story form. Here's an example for you: "I have lost 60 lbs from my hard work and dedication. Some days I haven't felt like working out or sticking to my diet plan, but I have! I earned every single bit of it. I can fit into my wedding dress, and my fiance looks at me totally different. Friends compliment me all the time. I don't know what tomorrow holds, but for today, I will live life with everything I have and stay dedicated to a better future." -Write whatever you want for yourself, I actually have something similar (minus the wedding dress, haha). Read it every morning when you wake up and every night before you go to sleep.

We can't motivate you. That has to come from within. You either want it or you don't.

If you don't want it, nothing will make you do it.

If you do want it, nothing will stop you.
  • Best of luck. I gained a lot in a short amount of time this past year and now that I'm back, remembering to stay within my calorie limit and take it easy on myself in order to get back on board & stay there.

Visualize how you will look - both for you wedding and for beyond. But more importantly, visualize how you will FEEL. You know you can do it.

Wow, thank you for the tips, everyone! I will definitely use them. I'd love to look my best for the big day and I just need to keep reminding myself of that! <3
