Why is this an option? Does your diet consist solely of FBI files or the like?

IDK why people even care...
Mine is mostly empty lately anyway, because I've become lazy about logging....I actually eat quite well by habit now.0 -
The only thing I could figure is that it's for folks who may have a Personal Trainer or Nutritionist or the like that wants access to their diary to help with accountability. That way the person checking in on the member can just view the diary and type in the password. And the member can keep their diary private from all others.0

I had mine private for a while and my trainer had the password. I was in competition prep and tired of comments from some people who didn't understand the reasons behind what I was doing.0
-
Cause I don't need anyone's approval or disapproval over what I eat! (in very unsnotty tone of course) Definitely not secretive about it because my friends and I talk about it and ask advice, I just dont want it out there for the whole world!0

the password to my diary is "laparohysterosalpingoophorectomy"0

I don't understand why other people care if a diary is locked or not, but since you asked, in my case, it's locked with a password because I'm not comfortable with just anyone seeing what I eat. I'm a mostly recovered anorexic and the thought of people I don't know really well being able to see what and how much I eat makes me anxious. If anyone could see it, I wouldn't log at all. This way only people I'm comfortable with have the password.0

My guess is that a password is so you can set your diary to private but if you want to let someone in particular see it, you give it and them a password so only they can see it.
People have many reasons for keeping a diary private. There are medicines with calories in them, for example, and for those who log those meds, maybe they don't want others to see them.0 -
Haha, sweet! I didn't think I was going to get an answer. The trainer thing makes perfect sense. As far as all the other secretive stuff, I would've thought private would suffice, but I guess the added protection of the password is appealing to some if you're taking that route.
I'm private because my eating is sh!tty and a total embarrassment, so I get it. Not knockin'. And I'm thankful to all those who are open so I can browse and see how successful ones sustain.0 -
Its for the same people who complain about Google having a picture of their house on Street View. Someone might break in and steal their velvet Elvis paintings and rearrange their limited edition Sears and Roebuck furniture.0
-
Ha! Totally.
One time we went to a yard sale in our old neighborhood and later that day started messing with street view and that same house was also having a yard sale in the pic...spooky.0 -
Some people don't want to be judged? If you hide your eating habits it's usually because you're ashamed of them. They're either eating too much, too little, or the "bad" types of foods. Imagine how chastised a person would be if they made their fast food filled diary public and then when in the forums to complain about their weight.0

I was more curious as to password vs. private. But yeah, I totally don't want everyone to see my Jack In The Box catfood taco addiction. I'm well aware of my diet shortcomings.0

I second this!0 -
i have no trouble logging. have logged every single day since i created an account here. i don't need someone to pat me on the back for logging. i also don't need help/encouragement/hand holding, nor am i hiding anything. it just isn't anyone else's business.
eta - not everyone needs the same kind of support/feedback. just because one person does, doesn't mean everyone does.0 -

I log every day am consistent with my eating, do my exercises, plus have a very active job, and of course have seen the results. I'm not ashamed of what I eat, but I've see other people trying to tell others "you shouldn't eat this, you shouldn't eat that." I'm a to each his own type. Now yes if they are asking 'why can't I lose weight" thats a diff story, you will never see a post like that from me!0 -
It's for people who would generally just have it private but want to be able to let selected people see it. There's the trainer thing, or some people just have a few of their friends able to access it.
Personally, I wouldn't care enough to see a friend's diary to bother memorising a password!
But I'm on private because I don't need any advice on my eating, and some of the passive aggressive shiz I see on my friend's diaries would make me snappy (think "wow... I hope you really enjoyed that ice cream"), and because I use the recipe builder a lot and kept getting "Don't you think you should eat more veg?" questions when the recipe I entered has 2 friggen lbs of assorted vegies in it.0
