So once in every while I buy myself a whole basket full of sweets. Chips, candy, chocolate, Ice cream and anything else I want. And then the cashier says: "Omg! Are you gonna eat all that??" And then I say yes..... and she goes: "OMG your gonna get as fat as an elephant!" And then I smile and say: "I eat on this for 2-3 weeks. It's called moderation."
And then she looks at me as if crazy and she almost dropped my damned cupcakes in horror! Does anyone else get reactions like this?

Sometimes I buy a large amount of sweets at one time. I have been asked if it was all for me or for a party, but when I say they are just for me they usually think I have had a bad day or that it must take me a long time to finish them. When I was bigger they thought I ate them all in one day.0

You must be really interesting. No, never happened to me.0

Not sure if serious, or making up story in an attempt at interesting thread....0 -

Nope. Serious. Unfortunately. It was actually embarrassing because she said it so loud everyone could hear it.0 -
I cannot buy that much sweets because my brain will think we are having a binge and that could be dangerous LOL!
Occasionally i might buy the 3 sweet packs £1 but that is not very often. (My downfall is marshmallows and cola fizzy wands) :noway:0 -

This is the reason why I dont buy any sweets ... ever.0

Never happened to me but I have never purchased that many "treats" at one time.0

I do on occasion get the same look when buying beer!! :drinker:0

I get comments when I buy large amounts of anything- sweets, produce, orange juice (I was hosting brunch; it was a lot of orange juice).
In my area, cashiers are primarily teenagers without tact or adults trying to make small talk without thinking about how nosey they're being.0 -
I always get weird looks at Walmart when I walk in wearing a ski mask and buy my weekly allotment of duct tape, zip ties, plastic bags, gloves, a shovel, and a chef's knife. People can be so damn judgmental.0

Perhaps it would help to also remember pants. :bigsmile:0 -
Her customer service skills could use some work. That was an incredibly rude thing to say. I usually use self-checkout so that I don't have to deal with anyone. There is usually less of a line, too.0

No, but once I was buying pull ups for my son and the cashier said "Those are huge! Kids shouldn't still be wearing pull ups when they're that big" and I said "They do when they are permanently disabled." Shut her right the heck up. I hate nosy cashiers.0

I get that look when I buy a lot of booze. More often than not the checkout person will either ask me if I'm having a party or tell me to go straight home. :ohwell:0 -

I purchased 10 pounds of carrots. The clerk said " what, are you feeding horses"? I looked straight at her and said
Yes, as a matter of fact I have TWO.
Shut her up right away.0 -
Nope, never happened to me.
Last December I bought a case of 18 Terry's chocolate oranges from a supermarket because a) they were on special for only £1 each, and b) some were for use in a craft project and gifts. Cashier didn't bat an eyelid.0 -
Nope. I rarely buy sweets and only if i fancy them there and then. That's usually a single portion chocolate bar. And I use self service tills.0

I have gotten this one too...especially when buying necessities for a camping trip0 -
I do also get a look when I buy a bunch of baking supplies. I bake a ton of cookies at Christmas and I have a day with my niece that we bake all day. I have gotten a look then. You would think with flour, butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla, chocolate chips and other assorted things they could figure out I am not going home to eat a 5lb bag of sugar.0

Hm, I generally shop for groceries at Kroger, back in my home state and my new state in a different area of the country. I never get any comments about what I'm buying except the rare "ooh, that looks really good" or "I love these!" Maybe they have good employee training about the matter.
Also, most cashiers will tell you that after a while of working, you stop noticing what people are buying and just want to get them through the line quickly.0 -
I do freelance customer service training for businesses, and at one point I had a really rude/nosy cashier, and I asked for the manager and gave a short 5-minute lesson on the value of customer service, the line between friendly/professional and obnoxious and understanding the function of a cashier's role in a business. I offered my services and left my card with the manager.
I don't know if word got around, or if they took a still from the video cameras to post my picture, but whenever I go back to that store, my service is fantastic!0 -
A box of condoms, two 4 packs of red bull and 2 Jars of peanut butter...
I got the look, but not a word was spoken0 -
My husband frequently buys 50 or so chocolate bars at a time for club fund raiser.
He is not very slim looking.
I asked him if he ever gets any "looks" - he said, No, never.0
