back surgery looming, just want to get healthy again!

I have a ruptured disc at L5-S1 and have a date for a discectomy surgery October 29. 8 months of excruciating pain, handfuls of pills every day, excessive eating, consults and all the other fun stuff that came along with this will hopefully soon be coming to an end! I had come within 3 lbs of my 40 lb weight loss goal when my back took me down a disappointing detour on my journey to a healthier lifestyle, and now I've gained 22 lbs back. Thankfully, I discovered aquacise along the way so I am able to DO something by way of exercise, but it's obviously not enough to counter all the calories that have been going in. Looking for some friends who've been there and come back!

I had back surgery for a ruptured L5/S1 disc almost two years ago and the relief was immediate. My surgery went well and as the swelling went down over the next several days, I felt better and better. Within two months and while following Doc's guidance, I was back into a full workout routine. You'll get there, too.

Just remember to take it easy and don't rush, but definitely try to stay active. I've also found that I'll never get higher than 90-95% back to full health and I have to be careful about how I do things now (like lifting, carrying, or moving objects). I stretch more, too. But it's a hell of a lot better than when I was couch-ridden!
