Hi Guys and Girls,
My mother asked me today to do a bit of research for her. Just to start with my mother is
- Over 50
- Just had throat cancer removed
- Just have a quadruple bypass on her heart
- Is slightly overweight
She has been doing physical therapy (low impact cardio) at the hospital but this has come to an end, what she is after is a low impact exercise regime she can do in the comfort of her own home, she doesn't want weighs just cardio, to improve her heart and breathing after the two surgeries.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lesilie Sansone's walking DVDs are good. You can borrow then from your local library.0

^^ This.
Leslie Sanson's workouts are safe and effective. Heck, get your Mom to join MFP. There's a Leslie Sansone Group and lot's of us are over 50. There are several groups for over 50 somethings. She might enjoy the camaraderie and support.0 -
As cheesy as it sounds, Richard Simmons Sweatin to the Oldies.0

I have to agree with previous posts Leslie Sansone is awesome.
Walking workouts are popular right now. So if your mom finds Leslie a little "too happy" there are (music only option DVDs) and other similar alternatives.
Jessica Smith has many low impact walks on YouTube, as well as 2 DVDs
George Foreman (Petra Kolber leads) has several walking workouts
Debbie Rocker has several (beautiful outdoor scenery) walks.....but she doesn't changes moves enough for me
One of the easiest (great starter) walks out there is Weight Watchers Walking Kit (it's actually a DVD & CD) by Ellen Barrett.
Leslie is easy enough...she may pick up the pace...but the DVD user doesn't have to. No choreography....so just follow at your own speed.
If your mother has a Wii....Walk it Out is a fun "walking game" .....your steps are points that allow you to build an island.0 -
I am also over 50 and I do DDP Yoga almost everyday. It isn't like regular yoga. You get a pretty great cardio workout with virtually NO impact. There is also a big emphasis on breathing. In fact, one of the lessons is just controlling your breath. Most of the workout are around 30 minutes and modifications are encouraged based on your individual limitations. I have been a gym rat for years and lifted pretty heavy, but I saw more improvements in my strength doing DDP Yoga that I ever did lifting weights and at this point in my life, I don't want to beat myself up anymore. I really can't say enough good things about it. Flexibility is Youth Baby! You can find it at ddpyoga.com . Good luck to your mom.0
