Having a hard time lately

I've been having a really hard time working out here lately. I've been doing fine for months but now I'm struggling. I can barely run a mile without stopping. I'm soo close to my goal and I'm getting sad because I feel like I'm not accomplishing my goals anymore. I feel like such a failure! It makes me emotional and I balled all morning this morning. I've been sick with allergies for a couple weeks now and I'm always out of breath. I'm achy and tired all the time. I just don't know to do. I'm so determined to be the best that I can be- I just hate set backs and limitations. These allergy issues can last for weeks. I'm still pushing forth but not to the caliber I was before. I keep having to stop while running because I'm so out of breath. Am I declining? I just feel overwhelmed. Has anyone else experienced this??? Every year I get this upper respiratory infection and it really messes me up for weeks. I hope this is not whats happening. Last year it was do bad I really thought I was dying.

Sounds as if you have a lot of health issues at the moment and it is very hard to keep going when you aren't feeling good. You have done so well overall - look at what you have achieved rather than what you aren't at the moment. Just be patient with your body and it will happen I am sure.

You should talk to your doctor and see if there's any meds that can help you.

Let me start with this, you've lost 77 lbs! That makes you such a winner, it's ridiculous! You should be proud of that accomplishment. If you're having issues with endurance and energy, you may not be eating enough. As you get more fit, your body needs more fuel to function properly. I had this issue. I hit a plateau when I got close to my goal weight. I bumped up my calories and carbs and started making progress again. How many calories/day are you eating?

    Keep it up. You're amazing!

Thanks for your encouragement. It really helps a lot. I'm eating 1200 calories as of now and it really isn't enough at this point I don't think. For months I was fine but now I really need more. So this is a form of the plateau everyone speaks of lol. Around 2000 is my maintainence so I'm thinking maybe 1500 would work better. What do you think?

You might not want to bump up that much at first. I'd try 1400 cal/day for a week or 2. If you don't gain weight after that amount of time, bump up again. You should start feeling much more energy pretty quickly.

First congratulations on your major accomplishment of your loss. Try looking back at those pictures and thinking about what your couldn't do then. I remember how hard it was to cross my legs without using my hands to assist.

Now, as to your challenges with the allergy season-as a long time sufferer---it may be time to consider something for your lungs related to the allergies. For example an inhaler or an oral medication, this can be temporary for the season. I speak from experience as a nurse and an asthma person due to allergies. Consider a visit to your primary medical provider to start the discussion.

Don't give up. You have come too far...

I was just cruising the board and saw your post. I'm confused. You have lost SEVENTY SEVEN pounds and you're having a meltdown because your body is sick?? Wait a minute. You are SO IMPRESSIVE. I'm just at the start of my weight loss and I do sometimes feel overwhelmed - already. You are DOING it and you have DONE it and maybe you're just having a little setback or maybe you are sick and need to give your body a chance to heal. Go to the doctor, rest and drink fluids, whatever it is.
But PLEASE do not give up on yourself. People like me need to see people like you being successful and know that there ARE people who can actually lose lots of weight.

Take a breath, get better, give yourself a pat on the back, see how far you have come,....the cliche's just keep popping in my head.
Really, please don't beat yourself up.

I hope you feel better VERY soon and just keep going.

    :)

Change things up, if you typically run outside find a treadmill. I know the fall allergies are hitting me hard this year so outside running has been more difficult simply because of everything flying around in the air. I'm using this time to change up my running, I run a mile then walk .10 then back at it for another mile to 1.25 walk for .05 and then don't stop again until I've completed a 5k then if I'm feeling up to it I keep going off and on for a total of 5 miles. I've also been known to work sprints, can't comfortably go for a mile fine then I'll bust my rump telephone pole to next telephone pole then walk for 2 poles, run like crazy again then walk for 2 more.

It's not a bad idea to look at your food diary again, compare a few days here and there to the last time you felt great running, could be that you've got more of less of something going on. I cannot run with alot of carbs in my system, same goes for water, too much of either and I feel like a slug with asthma.

I'd also suggest just trying a couple of different workouts inside, avoid the allergies completely and stay inside. Hula hooping is fantastic and you will work up a sweat, work with some weights, use an elliptical or bike or both just do what you can do.

If you are concerned that it could be an infection most definitely get to the doctor and rest your body. Only you can know what you're feeling.

Good luck and I hope you're feeling better very soon!

Give yourself a break If you have lost 77lbs you KNOW that sometimes our bodies go into plateaus, sometiems we get sick, sometimes we have set backs. This is LIFE not some Hollywood movie! It is full of ups and downs. And we have to learn how to be good to ourselves and not get knocked off our feet by the downs. Right now, your body is telling your something. What do YOU think it is? I think yoru body is telling you to give it a bit of a rest. Try maintenance for a bit. Try working out a bit less. Try relaxing and being proud of your achievements before pushing on that next little bit. Take a week or two to give your body and yourself a break. Ease up on yourself. You have done GREAT now you only have a little bit to go. So take a break, give yourself a vacation and then come back and GO FOR IT!!!!
